Going to Cancun in January - anyone been here?
Has anyone been here before? Good? Not so good?

Also if thats the ME I am thinking of its almost right across the street from La Isla Mall so good shopping for clothes shoes and such. As well as a few nice places to eat.

Haven't stayed in Cancun for years, but have flown to the airport a few times over the past 5 or so years en route to Playa del Carmen, which is very fun. That whole region is great. Have fun.

Was there many years ago for the fishing. Place was full of college kids with too much money and too little brain power. Stay at a decent hotel.
Unless you're under 25 and don't want to sleep at night. Maybe it's changed. |

I'd stay faaaar away from the flee markets, they're annoying as fuck. Pretty much it's a section of close stores where nothing has a price on it, so they watch and anything you pick up, they'll come over and tell you an outrageous price and when you say no, they'll keep coming down, but then as you leave the store people from the next store are waiting outside their door to persuade you to bring you into theirs.
My wife, at the time, went into this one store and picked out a cheap bracelet and the guy said to pick out a couple more and he'll give a "great deal". He put them on his little scale and punched up some number on his calculator and said "$160" !! My wife and I looked at eachother and almost fell over. We said no, so he came down to $120, then $100, then $90, then $60, then $40, we kept saying "no" and finally he said $20 and we accepted, ha ha. The tours are fun, I wish we would've done more, we didn't do any till the day before we left, we did the ruins of Telum and then Xel-Ha water park and it was a good time. If you drink, the "Booze Cruise" was fun. They put you on a boat, wait on you hand and foot, giving you drinks, bring you to an island, then feed and entertain you while you drink more, ha ha, then they load you back on the boat and bring you back. One thing I gotta say though is SUNTAN LOTION ! I'm not used to being around the ocean, but just going to the beach for a little bit, I figured I didn't wanna get all lotioned up, so I didn't and got pretty burnt in minimal time, ha ha. |
Cancun is fun enough. If you're at a resort, it's kind of like being in a tequila-fuelled alternate universe, so it loses its charm after a while... It's fun for a few days and it's a great way to zone out and recharge.

My wife and I are flying into Cancun on Dec 23 and out on Jan 8, but will be spending the first 9 days in Cuba. When we get back to Cancun we're renting a car and planning on checking out Chichen Itza, Tallum/Punta Allen, Playa del Carmen and possibly a day in Cozumel if we have time. Don't really plan on spending any time in Cancun. If you will be there the same time maybe we can meet for drinks one night.

Unfortunately I will only arrive on the 9th and be there for 5 days.

Cancun is fucking AMAZING! if you're a partier it is your dream place.
Cheap booze, good clubs, hot tourists. Everyone looking to have fun. The nighlife is worth the entire trip and also the beaches are beautiful. For the fun factor Cancun will always rank high on my list. Prepare for a hang over :D |
It's a good time. I had fun in Playa del carmen as well. Stayed at a resort in between cancun and playa del carmen. Weather was perfect. The lady and I had a blast.

So we flew with United Airlines and Lufthansa instead. After my last disaster with Delta which lost my bags on a regular flight from Vegas to Munich with 1 stop I was already almost certain that our bags wouldnt arrive. Cancun is too touristy for me, it's like going to Hawaii or Florida.
If I'm leaving the country it's to Costa Rica! Awesome pictures though! |
