Visit time on website

What's the average time surfers stay on your website? 1-10sec 10-20sec etc. etc.

I know exactly how to check those stats. You didn't ask how to do it. You asked how long surfers stay on my website. Which website? There are too many variables to give you an answer. Lots of things will affect how long a surfer stays on your site from layout, ads, content type and quality, page load time, etc.

I agree with Babaganoosh in that, how long is the piece of string?

In other words it depends completly on your site as to how long someone would spend on it. It is hard to measure a site by length of time, a like for like site yes these can be measured to see how long someone spends on them. It's all to do with supply and demand.

Also, I thought your stats comment was hilarious, considering even for the short amount of time I have been here I have the feeling Babaganoosh knows exactly where all his incoming links are and where all his stats measures can be found.

Ok I guess I took it in the wrong context. Everybody busts balls and it's hard to tell who is serious and who's not. Some days are better than others, today is just one of those days.

I was looking for an average, I think that would have a significant effect on ratios, and what can be done to keep the surfer on your site longer?

thanks

Originally, I thought that is what he meant and then I though well, who wants a short piece of string. I want a nice long piece as much as I want the surfer to stay a nice long time. I know way too over anayliz:1orglaughed

What you want is not for people to stay a nice long time, what you want is people to stay long enough that they can navigate their way to your sponsor or your payment page if you run your own pay site.

What you want to avoid is bounce, where a visitor leaves and goes elsewhere, however if they are navigating away from your site in favor of making a purchase via one of your links then you want them to be making that purchase decision relatively quickly, before they can think of reasons not to purchase.

Agreed! So I guess the challenge is to sell that paysite within 10-20 seconds which doesn't seem to be enough time to make your sales pitch. Where is that killer grab me text to get them to empty their pockets?

Turok24 11-23-2011 12:58 AM

way to many factors come into play here, if u want to add precious seconds make sure your site loads as fast as possible....:thumbsup

Good point! I will look into the cache plugin today. Even though we have high speed internet it sometimes loads like a modem, not the greatest host either.

bpluva 11-23-2011 09:12 AM

How would I go about getting a longer piece of string? Mine is waaay too short! I pulled and streched it as long as I could. I don't want it to snap it.:(
