Thousands Frenchmen as a part of German army fought against UK in the North Africa. Thousands it is quite realized and have voluntary gone on East front to be at war againts SU. The war passed through Poland twice. Moreover, during the first two years of the war Stalin was every bit as busy killing Poles in his half of the country as Hitler was busy killing Poles (and Jews) in his half.

As if all of that wasn't bad enough, after the war Stalin proceeded to kill still more Poles.

Eastern Europe was not a good place to call home in the 40's.

All this horror. All the killing of innocents. Millions upon millions dead. All this happened just 70 years ago.

In the pre WWII years it all depended on where you were.

The Baltic states (i.e. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) were and remained quite prosperous even throughout the 1930's depression, but later... they had half of their collective populations slaughtered under Stalin.

Stalin was no friend of the Jews. He put Jews at the head of his Baltic and East Poland killing squads so as to deflect the blame from himself.

Indeed, prior to his own death in 1953, he was putting the finishing touches on the plans for a his own Soviet wide anti Jewish holocaust.
