Script or software that let's you draw on pictures on a website...
 

I'm not going to go into full details about this plan...

What I would like to know is there software out there that would allow images to be drawn on in the website I host. Of course this is doable on several sites out there but on my own.

This may be asking a lot from an open source program...

Anybody willing to offer guidance?

You mean like a whiteboard?

They have an option for running it on your own server... hmm.... On the right track I'll look into it, depending on the licensing fees.

Who? Whiteboard sites have been around for about ten years, maybe more. I just meant do you mean something where multiple people draw on a picture at the same time? Or just individually draw? Anyway, just Google whiteboard software and you might find something you can use.

Edit: Nvm. I misread your first post actually, I thought you meant you have a picture, like a photo, and you want people to draw on it. Ie, like a whiteboard with a background image. But you just basically want to allow collaborative drawing, which is exactly a whiteboard.

I thought about doing a whiteboard site many years ago, so Googled out of curiosity. Maybe you saw this, or found something else, but Hiveboard might be what you're looking for:

Yeah, that looks like it has some potential. Depending on what's on there I may have to rethink my options. Building and editing a custom whiteboard from existing source is a colossal project.

No server on that though is there, so no multi-user? I was thinking of Nodejs earlier and the Javascript in that example reminded me and I did a quick search.
