The Dark Legacy Of Reaganomics
http://www.FetishSoup.com/GFY/ReaganMonkey.jpg
from the article... Rather than continuing a half century of policies that made smart investments in research and development ? along with maintaining a well-educated work force and a top-notch transportation infrastructure ? Reagan declared ?government is the problem? and built a political movement for deconstructing it. That movement, which boasts powerful right-wing media outlets and well-funded think tanks, now dominates the American political landscape. And, today it presses even harder than Reagan did for dismantling government programs while rejecting the slightest revenue enhancements, like closing tax loopholes for corporate jets or any other tax advantage favoring the rich. In the future ? if the American Right and its Tea Party foot soldiers have their way ? the federal government would be reduced to doing little more than paying the Pentagon?s bills and eliminating regulations. more here... http://www.addictinginfo.org/2011/11...f-reaganomics/ |

Reagan was 1980s. His legacy was the 1990s. Smart investments in research and development, you say? Like uhm, I don't know, the friggin internet!
Perhaps you prefer "research investment" in companies that you're been told are going to go bankrupt no matter how taxpayer money you give them, but a company that does contribute to the president's campaign as they go under? |
so reagan invented the internet now?

didn't know reagan invented the internet. cool.

Government does not create wealth. Smart government is small government which gets out of the way and encourages the private sector to produce wealth. The best encouragement is to let investors keep more of their hard earned money. The US government has grown enormously in the last decade, which is why the private sector, along with our economy, is in the dumps. As government grows, the private sector withers. The creeping growth of government over the last century suggests a menace to our basic freedoms: http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/...ury_chart.html |

Yeah that was one product of Reagan era defense research. Previously DARPA had a primitive private network connecting a few dozen computers. During the Reagan years government research resulted in the Internet Protocol (IP). Instead of just a network connecting individual computers, it was developed into the inter-network, connecting the world's disparate private networks into one public internet. Also part of Reagan's R&D program was the R&D tax credit, the space station, a major physics boom ... To criticize Reagan by saying there wasn't enough R&D in the 80s is like calling Clinton a prude. There are plenty of valid criticisms, but that claim is silly. |

Say what you want about the Regan era, but without it we wouldn't have the crack epidemic. In turn we wouldn't have the 'The Wire'. Thanks Ronald.
