To the single people here...

and to those whose family live far away from them?

I always wonder, where the hell do you go so you don't feel homesick. I tried going to New York City but it's too damn cheerful. I don't want to stay at home because I get restless.

Any suggestions on what I can do during the holidays?

Mutt 12-02-2011 08:43 AM

all a matter of perspective, just pretend all your family is dead and then you won't feel homesick because you don't have family to miss. you'll be feeling chipper in no time.:thumbsup

TrustCash 12-02-2011 08:55 AM

uh... good to know. next suggestion please...

When I was single I would throw a holiday party/dinner for all of my single friends that were all in the same boat. In fact, one year, it was like a round table where every other day we all went to a different persons place, so that we all hosted a dinner party and went to like 6 of them over two weeks.

Next time you go to NYC, try to stay for at least 10+ years so it won't seem as cheery as it does now!

CDSmith 12-02-2011 09:17 AM

Go to Mexico.

They'll pump you full of so much tequila everyone in your hotel will be family.

First make some friends.
Second get drunk with friends.
Third wake up in puke with strange whore.
Fourth don't feel homesick anymore.

Go to the bar

EukerVoorn 12-02-2011 11:36 AM

Go out and beat up the first old couple you walk into. Before you know it you'll be in the company of nice police men who will look after you and provide you with free meals and drinks. If you're lucky the old couple you beat up were the parents of one of those cops, he'll give you extra attention then and introduce you to the world of hard gay s+m.

Another option: go to the nearest animal shelter and pick a dog, or a bunch of cats.

I'd recommend volunteering at a soup kitchen or similar. I've been in your situation at several times during my life and had a friend recommend this to me. I didn't think I'd like it, or I would feel uncomfortable, or out of place. But, all the staff appreciated the help, and all the people who came for meals were more than grateful. It really made me appreciate just having a home, even if I had no family to spend the holiday with, because that's more than those people had. It's an all around good experience.

If you are ever in an area where they have them, do it, you won't regret it. In fact, you will probably want to do it again at various times throughout the year.

Be careful whose advice you take.

WiredGuy 12-02-2011 02:30 PM

I get sick when I go home, being away from family is my reprieve.
