That Charlie Chaplin speech was amazing. There are few videos/speeches/people out there who make me want to get off my ass at the very moment I'm watching and go make something happen, but that did it.

Do you know anything about it? Was it from a movie?

It's from The Great Dictator, which is an excellent film.

The Great Dictator was an incredible movie for it's time - 1940, and Chaplain's speech is timeless.

Dalton Trumbo's novel, "Johnny Got His Gun", had a profound affect on my world view as well. Interestingly, I discovered both while I was enlisted in the Navy. For years now, I have given away paperback copies of "Johnny Got His Gun", as a gift to people. I highly recommend it, and consider it among the most important and life-changing books which I have read.

Metallica's song "One", is based upon "Johnny Got His Gun", and the video for "One" features excerpts from the movie:

As if everyone can't understand or agree that governent waste is bad... So of course we need a bunch of filthy hippies in drum circles to communicate that point and force those who make the rules and ignore them to bend to their will and restructure the financial system and financial markets.

Got it.

You just make yourself sound like an uninformed, uneducated, out of touch old man when you refer to this movement as a bunch of filthy hippies in drum circles. The movement is now massive, validated, and still growing, but you're just as irrelevant as you were the first time you made such a statement. You were passed by, sit back and watch.

A lot of shaggy haired commie losers want to blame capitalists, the people who create the wealth that we all enjoy, for the commie losers in our government who are destroying the golden capitalist goose? It makes no sense, except if you realize that this is what commie losers do, they feed off of capitalism while condemning it.

If commie regimes were really so appealing, the commies in our midst would all flee to Venezuela --which isn't happening.

Validated (huh?)

Still growing?

OWS is a giant fail. The children fail to think this through. They came up with a name and the concept of "occupying", which in itself is an illegal act. It was a cross between a circus and a campground. Instead of representing the 99% they attracted the bottom 10% by handing out free food and shelter for homeless people. At the same time, instead of going after the banking industry and the politicians, they squared off against local police departments - which are in fact members of the 99%.

I predict that OWS will re-invent itself over the winter and will become a legit protest group, and instead of camping out in city parks and pissing off the local police who has done nothing wrong, they'll grow up and march on Washington DC.

I completely disagree that it's a giant fail. It will indeed continue to grow, and morph into what's needed to accomplish the goals set forth. It's already a legit protest group, with plans to move into Washington D.C. in January. We need to crawl before we can walk.

The real tea party was an act of civil disobedience. Look at where it got us.

Those stupid hippy protesters throwing tea into the Boston Harbor... Oh, wait...

It's already a giant fail. At this point, they no longer "occupy" anything.

This is a group of idiots. They name is based on an illegal act, and they never gave any thought to the fact that it's fucking cold in NYC in winter, and only a handful of hardcore people and the homeless are going to be camping out in a tent. The general public agrees with their vague message, but not illegally taking parks away from the general public, crapping on our streets, and squaring off with the local police. They've raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, spent it on underwear and food, and are using the lobby of Deutsche Bank as their headquarters.

This group needs to change it's name, put away it's tents, come up with a short list of demands, and bring it to Washington DC.
