When is appropriate age to tell your kid Santa is not real?
I just did, my daughter cried, my ex wants to file for full custody.
She's 9... Thoughts? |
you cruel bastard, there's no reason to tell a child Santa doesn't exist, they learn it on their own. your daughter is 9, if she still believes in Santa at 9 she's probably mildly retarded - let her have her fantasies.
now go to her bedroom and tell her Daddy just played a pretty mean joke on her and of course Santa Claus is real. it's probably a good time though to tell her that Jesus is a total crock of shit. |
Around 21.
|
Santa is not real??? :waaaaahh:waaaaahh:waaaaahh :helpme:helpme:helpme
|
Santa's not real? Who the fuck brings me my presents.
|
Tell them as soon as they see a Santa but tell them it's really fun make believe.
Don't let your children grow up stupid. |
Let them know as soon as possible 2 or 3 is about right
|
that's why you don't have a father daughter "chat" at the end of a coke and booze bender.
|
|
That was a shitty thing to do...
The appropriate age? When they TELL YOU he is not real. Then they are probably old enough to deal with the concepts, old concepts anyway behind the meaning of the character. If you really did that you have told your child you lie to them. They cannot trust you anymore...you broke a bond that should not have been broken...at age 9. |
who is santa ?

then didn't he still lie to the kid? :1orglaugh |
Seriously, regardless of age - who the fuck would tell their kid that a couple weeks before Christmas?!
OP has got to be trolling or literally the worst parent ever. |
at least 21. Don't break his heart.
|
Had to ruin for me before Christmas :(
Prove he's not real :xmas-smil30:xmas-smil22:weihnacht:xmas-smil16:smilie_we:xmas-smil |
wonder why it ever became ok to lie to children :2 cents:
|
let them work it out themselves, until then, Santa gets to be your fall guy.

According to a Disney survey, between 7 and 8 years old is average. It appears that how much of a shock it is partly depends on how parents present the idea of Santa. If parents talk about how Saint Nick is an example of the spirit of joyful giving, the transition to learning about the "first" (real) Saint Nick.

Small children visualize both Saint Nick and God as old men with beards who grant wishes. Most of us mature as we grow older and grow out of that point of view. A few of us assume that the childish point of view is the only possible way of thinking and therefore conclude that everything we don't fully understand is completely fake, except of course aliens. |

children should be believe in anything - monsters under the bed, imaginary friends, Santa, God - it's adults who believe in fairy tales that are the danger. and yes of course I know that Santa Claus is based on a real person but the version we know, the red suit, the North Pole, elves, reindeer sleigh - commercial artists working for advertising agencies dreamed that up. |
I would not do that at least until 16 )) This is one of the few beautiful fairy tales youngsters have in their life!

Well, interesting replies.
My daughter has a serious problem in that she always believes her mother. My ex is a habitual liar, she used to lie when she didn't even need to. So, Santa was real, she swore. My daughter figured it out pretty much last year when Santa presents and my presents were wrapped in the same paper... lol. But, mommy swore Santa was real. All those Santa's at the mall were Santa's helpers, not elves, but the special Santa helpers. LOL So topic came up and I laid it out. I did talk about the actual Saint and the "myth" of the story. Anyway, she did cry, she did tell her mom, and smoke is now coming out of her mothers ears. I don't know, when I was 9 I had a DS80 motorcycle and shooting BB guns, and I sure as fuck knew those didn't come from Santa. |

When she splits home at 16 and starts pole dancing in Daytona for bike week you'll have your answer.

I know he's not real, but I still believe in Santa...

Here's an idea, don't lie to your children in the first place.

you need help. :2 cents: |
Don't be fucking stupid, Santa is as real as anything. Every parent is in fact Santa.
|
Only a complete retard would ever lie to their children. That is why you idiots wonder why your brats grow up as useless members of society. Maybe tell them the truth about life for once and stop being pressured by societies bullshit.
|
I say let children hold on the magic, innocence, and imagination of childhood as long as they can. There will be plenty of time for "the facts of life" to be beaten into them for the rest of their lives.
When your kid comes to you and asks, "Is Santa Claus real?" Then they are ready to be told. You don't have to volunteer the info IMHO. . |

Awwwwwwwwwww I would want to keep up with it as long as possible as well. How about the Tooth Fairy? |

Fact: They find out in school from other kids and start questioning at age 7. |
I learned in first grade.... So what 6 or 7?
I heard the rumors around school, realized Santa didn't make any sense, discussed with my parents and they confirmed. |

My parents never lied to me, Santa was always a cute joke. I was also not a stupid child. If your child cannot figure it out for themselves at an early age they most likely have problems and will be taken advantage of when they are older. This projected innocence is completely fake. It breeds a society of mis trust because children and teens have everyone around then lying at them until they are "adults". But you are to stupid to understand. Why does not believing in Santa mean you are miserable? Do you still believe in Santa? Are you miserable? It makes 0 sense and is a blanket statement. If you want me to go further i can make you look like a complete idiot. |
Parents use the concept of Santa to keep kids in line and society uses the concept of God to keep adults in line. You've all been duped, from the day you learn your first words to the day you take your last breath.

Shit I figured it out on my own when I was 6. And since I was the only Jewish kid in my class I didn't care... and told others why it was impossible for Santa to exist :p
