Everyone ever used Champix to stop smoking?

I recently started with the Champix pills soon I have to define my stop date but already feeling miserable from the pills.

Anyone every tried this treatment?

Caligari 12-09-2011 08:36 AM

have not tried that, but tried welbutrin and that sucked, felt weird and did not work.

i am currently using e-cigs and that is definitely far better than normal cigarettes.

someone recommended champix but if it's anything like welbutrin i will pass.

Till now cigarettes don't taste, also smoke less and from Monday I will definitely stop.

It's a cure with a duration of 2 weeks. First week you take two times per day 50 mg pills and in the second week two times 100 mg pills.

In the 2nd week you need to select a day where you want to stop.

In a way it takes that craving feeling away, let's see how it goes, will let you know

Champix? Never even heard of that.

I'm trying to quit right now. I'm still getting over a sickness so I'm using that along with some snus. My urge has went down but it's still there like crazy. :( Starting my new years resolution early!

Maybe it has in your country an other name.

Yeah I had the same idea stopping before the Xmas holiday.

i cant afford to stop smoking... :(

sperbonzo 12-09-2011 10:27 AM

It's called Chantix in the US, and I've known 3 people that quit with it, including my wife.

Possible side effects linked to suicide and depression, no thanks. You want to quit do it cold turkey. I haven't had a cigarette since 2004 and used nothing but willpower to stop.

works brilliantly - really vivid dreams though, which sometimes isn't a bad thing ;)

I never started :pimp

_Richard_ 12-09-2011 01:22 PM

googled 'champix issues' out of curiosity and would never take that

anexsia 12-09-2011 01:26 PM

My father used it and eventually stopped because he said he was having some really freaky and terrible dreams...but it was working for him up until he stopped.

Worked great for me!

I'm taking Champix right now (yes it's called Chantix in other countries) and I'm in my 3rd week. Haven't had a cig since March 5 and so far so good. I still kind of want to smoke just out of habit, but I don't physically crave nicotine anymore. :thumbsup

As for side effects, I felt a little nausea first time I took a 1mg dose but that was because I took it on an empty stomach. Not a problem since then.

I haven't had any nightmares and I haven't been thinking of killing myself. I'm guessing the suicidal tendencies are more prevalent in people who are emotional basket cases to begin with, and maybe Champix/Chantix just exacerbates that problem.

A friend of mine said she went from 30 cigs a day to 4-5 a day on Champix

SZNY 03-12-2012 03:49 PM

I stopped in total 3+ months but recently started again :Oh crap

Seems like loads of work + stress made me weak

I tried it and it was great, first month/course was fantastic.

However when I started on the second month, I had a reaction with it and broke out in hives all over my face / hands / arms. Stopped using it straight away and they went away straight away.

This is a good example that pills is a not cood solution, why not to try special tranings/corsers to stop smoking?

BSleazy 03-12-2012 09:17 PM

I need to quite smoking and use that extra $250+ a month for something better :)

A "good" solution is whatever works! Cold turkey, patch, e-cig, drugs... whatever gets you to quit for good is the solution you need.

Personally I like the pills. People hear about all these horrible side effects thinking the drug will turn them inside out, but you have to realize that the side effects won't be the same for everyone.

I personally have had close to zero side effects so far from Champix, and the same was mostly true when I took Accutane many years ago. Accutane just dried out my skin like crazy but it was a small price to pay for ridding myself of extremely bad acne! I never felt suicidal for the 8 months I was taking it, but there have been a handful of reports of other people killing themselves while taking the drug. Sometimes you gotta make choices that come with risk.

i used to smoke daily for 17 years. Lately I used to smoke til 3 packs per day, long and strong cigs, long red Marlboro.
I have 1 year and 11 days since I quit using some weird Bulgarian pills found on eBay called Tabex. Second day using these pills I stop naturally and for gesture I used to smoke NTB (cigs without tobacco and nicotine) but I am sure would work those electronic cigs without nicotine as well. Now I quit NTB too. I am a happy non smoker now :)
All these after reading a book wrote by Allen Carr who made me wish that.
I wish you good luck with Champix.

It's a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE drug. I tried and it gave me disgusting side effects. Made me really very aggressive and violent. Horrendous mood swings. Dreadful nightmares.

So I came off it.

Hope it works for you my friend.

It is. My GF tried it and had to stop - gave her mood swings, depression, became disorientated, absent minded, agorophobic, insomnia, nausea and lost appetite completely. Nasty.

Nope, just willpower.

Sarah_ALSSCAN 03-13-2012 07:10 AM

My husband and I quit using Chantix a little over 3 years ago (I smoked for 20 years).

I was irritable and had headaches . Plus some nausea so I always took it on a full stomach. The vivid dreams didn't bother me.

Unless you're having suicidal or homicidal thoughts I would try and stick with it. Or talk to your doctor about a lesser dose.
