Help! I need a good therapist in LA (really)

Not for me! I already have my own counselors, thank you very much.

My 24 y.o. son who lives in Burbank (non-pro, one woman man, straighter than his dad) has a good job in a restaurant which gives him the flexibility to finish school. The job has accelerated his drinking problem. I think he needs to see someone. I don't know much about the restaurant business, but he works in a big popular bar/restaurant near the Bev Center. When the doors close at 2am, it's open bar for the closing staff. Not a good thing, esp if you have to drive cross town at 3am. I have a little purse power left, so if I find him someone, I can compel him to go, at least a few times.

Name/number/link, anything you post would be appreciated or email me at

When he wakes up wasted in the back of his car at 4 am with the stereo blasting and realizes his pants are down to his angles (after the police officer who woke him up points out that fact) he will know that he needs to make a change in his life. Worked for me:2 cents:

Good luck! Before booking any appointments, I would talk to your son to see if he actually wants to get help, and recognizes that he has a problem. Scheduling such appointments could be a waste of time and money if he just blows them off.

bm bradley said it best

Search AA or Alcoholics Anonymous. A few friends of mine are old times and they are good peeps.

AA is everywhere and 100 times better than any therapist.

AA is for quitters!

I am looking for an MSW, addiction counselor, or psychotherapist, but thanks for telling me about AA. I did not know about that.

Yup, bar and restaurant people are notorious for being alcoholics.

Every club I've worked at in the last 4 years has had at least one employee in the building at any time that had a dui.

It's just how it is. I would go out one night a week and drink at least a 1L bottle of vodka, wake up the next morning feeling great. Depending on the club, when I was working I would probably have 8-10 drinks.

Finally I was so drunk after work I decided it was a good idea for an 18 year old stripper to drive me home (in my 550+ hp camaro). She made it about 20 feet, straight back in reverse, and drove it through a brick wall.

After having to pay for the wall and my car to be repaired, and realizing I would have NEVER done that had I been sober, I stopped drinking.

He'll never stop if he doesn't want to, no matter how much therapy or how many meetings he goes to.

Unfortunately, something bad has to happen for him to want to change, and hopefully whatever it is doesn't kill him in the process.

my guess he will be insulted by your idea, no way he will go... :2 cents:
