Does RIM / Blackberry have a future?
new technology announced recently will be available until the end of 2012, how can you compete now with Apple, Samsung, etc? Anyone can save RIM? Microsoft, Google?

I see blackberries running Android in my crystal ball...

They better move to Android...

Agreed. I've been saying they should move to Android for a long time. Their current OS is a POS.

i still see a lot of blackberries, but i just dropped mine for an iphone

If they expanded BBM messenging to Android and Ios, that would help them as well. |
The true benefit of the blackberry at this point is only for corporations. No other OS has a server software that manages the phone content like Blackberry Enterprise Server. There is no way a bank would switch its end users to an iPhone or Android, as there is no security back end. With Blackberry. You can block content ie: adult, gambling etc from the users. Gives them control over the users, which in corporate environments that are regulated in some way, need this functionality.

As of March of 2012, BlackBerry is going to allow iPhone and Android users to connect/sync with their BES servers - using a downloaded app that will set security policies on the aforementioned phones ...
This will buy BlackBerry some time to dot their I's and cross their T's on the new BlackBerry 10 OS IMHO BlackBerry has spent too much time trying to compete in the consumer market ... they would be much better off concentrating their efforts on the corporate market that built their company .... and they should repurpose the PlayBook for commercial applications - such as in service vehicles ... There is some serious cash involved if PlayBook becomes the de-facto standard for service vehicles |

The thread question should be rephrased to "Does NOKIA have a future?" |
They're actually very popular amongst the teen crowd over here...

I have been using them for about a year now and the main reason is the keyboard. I haven't found a phone yet with a physical keyboard as good as a BB. Their push-email works good as well.
I used an Android phone too, and if there was one with a comparable keyboard and good battery life (lol) I would probably switch back to Android. I loved my old android phone. I find the BB to be a good, reliable no bullshit business phone but the Android handset was a lot more enjoyable to use. I have a BB 9900 and the keyboard/touchscreen combo is pretty damn good. |
