I use namecheap, and they give you free privacy for a year, so I take it... HOWEVER... I dont bother to renew after year 1... My address is no secret...

youdeserve 12-19-2011 05:35 AM

Not bad. I prefer to stay with Godaddy though.

Fair play. I moved AL my names from godaddy, after they gave accsess to an unathrised person, who moved domains to his own account, and deleted certain others - Working earning sites for a solo girl or two...

They sorted it out, and 'kinda' said sorry, but after that I moved them all...

This was however in 2005... But once bitten? Fuck Them ! :thumbsup

Yeah i would probably move as well. In my case though i've had nothing but great customer support so no reason to move.
I once had a domain disabled by interpol or the fbi or something haha. But that would've happened no matter where i buy my domains.

slapass 12-19-2011 06:17 AM

I only do it on adult.

Domains by proxy is Godaddy's solution for domain privacy.
Since they have so many resellers, they also sell the servive "domains by proxy" which never lists anything about Godaddy but acts like a separate company.

The service is included for free the first year, if you register 6 or more domains at once. Then when you're up for renewal they will try to charge you $8.99 per year for each domain just for the domains by proxy service, plus another $10 or so in renewal fees for the domain itself.

If you have many doamins, cal your account representative and sweet talk them a bit and ask to have your account enabled with the discount for the domains by proxy service and they will check your current business with them and then make a decision wheter or not to allow you to buy it cheaper.

It generally akes no sense paying almost the double amount when you can get it fro free when you transfer your domains. So if they do not enable you for the cheaper price, then move to namecheap or elesewhere get free domapinprivacy there and then move back to get free domains by proxy service again.

MrCain 12-19-2011 07:31 AM

I use it when it is free.

CIVMatt 12-19-2011 07:39 AM

I thought using privacy was an SEO hit?

borked 12-19-2011 07:43 AM

Use ovh for domains... Domain privacy is included for free

Klen 12-19-2011 08:19 AM

I use free privacy at name dot com.I wish i used it since i started in biz, since there is still tons of whois entries archived on google which show my details.

InfoGuy 12-19-2011 10:28 AM

If you use privacy services and there is a dispute over ownership, you're going to get fucked in the ass without lube.

Many people who used privacy with formerly Top 10 registrar RegisterFly lost domains when it went under.

I have a reseller account where I pay less than $8 per domain and get free privacy for life on domains.

That'll work if you want to keep your address private. It won't be of any use from an seo point of view.

RegisterFly started as an eNom reseller, but eventually got ICANN accredited and had over 2 million domains under management. GoDaddy acquired all of RegisterFly's customers after they went down in flames.
