To all the singers out there...

How many octaves can you sing? I'm pretty thrilled that even with all the damage I've done to my voice over the years I still have 2 1/2 octaves... 3 1/2 if I belt or falsetto.

u-Bob 12-20-2011 11:09 AM

<---- can't sing.

notime 12-20-2011 11:15 AM

Evil Chris 12-20-2011 01:08 PM

I sing when I drive. :)

thehand 12-20-2011 01:15 PM

2.5 / 3 on a good day:thumbsup

garce 12-20-2011 01:16 PM

Elvis only had a two octave range. Give yourself a cookie.

PR_Glen 12-20-2011 01:21 PM

was around 3.5 when i was younger, like early twenties.. don't think i can get that high anymore, i'm more comfortable in lower octaves these days anyway. vocal lessons helped a lot with that. still never overcame the nervousness of singing in front of other people though.. hehe

Off the top of my head, he seemed to be in the 2.5 range, when you figure in the baritone & falsetto- :2 cents:

LAJ 12-20-2011 01:37 PM

Well ya find out something new every day. No audio online of me singing however I'll gladly demonstrate in person if/when I see you next ;)

On a good day I can hit a low F below low C and a high B flat above middle C without straining. And then nearly another octave above that if I wail or falsetto...

Well hey as long as you are hitting the right notes and sound good doing it, it's all good :thumbsup

SykkBoy 12-20-2011 04:54 PM

I have about a 1/4 octave range...

back in the day, I had a 2 octave range, mainly higher, but I'm so out of practice I doubt I could hit any of the notes I used to hit

I tried a falsetto once and thought my throat was going to explode...

FlexxAeon 12-20-2011 05:00 PM

3ish.... 4 if i falsetto

Jon Oso 12-20-2011 07:22 PM

I was a bass-baritone up to tenor 2 in high school. I've probably only got baritone 2 to tenor 1 range now, could do tenor 2 in falsetto... but I started smoking.

I want to say I had a 5-6 octave range back in high school, probably 3-3.5 now.

I have near-perfect pitch though, and can completely control vibrato through most of my range so that helps.

Lung power is another factor, I was the entire baritone section in my 45 person varsity choir in high school. Had about 12 tenors, 25 altos and 12 or so sopranos.

I should really start taking vocal lessons again.

Try 5-1/2 octaves:

ADG

LAJ 12-20-2011 10:17 PM

Hey ADG... I'll call ya tomorrow :)

thehand 12-21-2011 10:48 AM

Post your recordings....

Sophie Delancey 12-21-2011 01:34 PM

Probably about 3 and a half octaves still, but that upper register hasn't had much work in a while.

CyberHustler 12-21-2011 01:44 PM

I can't sing for shit... and my wife's honesty has stopped me from even "play" singing anymore...

Jarmusch 12-21-2011 02:13 PM

How many octaves does this guy sing?

He covers about 3 1/2 octaves in that song alone...
