Republican mayor outed after spending taxpayer money at gay sex store in Toronto

Mississippi mayor has been forced to come out of the closet after charging taxpayers for a purchase made at a gay sex store in Toronto.

Greg Davis, the Republican mayor of Southaven, Miss., is embroiled in a spending scandal after state auditors requested receipts for $170,000 (U.S.) in improper charges he made to the city.

According to The Commercial Appeal, a newspaper in Memphis, Tenn., the receipts include thousands of dollars in liquor and lavish dinners, as well as a $67 charge at a store called Priape, which bills itself as ?Canada?s premiere gay lifestyle store and sex shop.?

Mr. Davis ran as a conservative, family values candidate in an unsuccessful bid for Congress in 2008. He has a wife of 19 years, Suzann, and three young daughters, who are all active members of Heartland Baptist Church, according to the city?s website.

?At this point in my life and in my career, while I have tried to maintain separation between my personal and public life, it is obvious that this can no longer remain the case,? Mr. Davis told the newspaper in an interview on Thursday afternoon from his Southaven home. ?While I have performed my job as mayor, in my opinion, as a very conservative, progressive individual ? and still continue to be a very conservative individual ? I think that it is important that I discuss the struggles I have had over the last few years when I came to the realization that I am gay.?

The mayor?s office did not respond to requests for comment on Monday.

The Commercial Appeal obtained the receipts through a Freedom of Information request. Mr. Davis told the newspaper he couldn?t recall what he bought at the sex store, and that he was in Toronto on a recruitment trip with Mid-South warehouse developers.

Southaven is the third-largest city in Mississippi, and Mr. Davis was first elected as its mayor in 1997.

He told the newspaper it?s too early to discuss whether he?ll step down, and that he?ll take time off over the holidays to be with his family.

... Damn ... Canada`s fault .... :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Who gives a flying fuck? He is not even a federal level official. At worst, he owes the state government the expense money and is a hypocrite in his lifestyle. He also has some explaining to do to his wife.

It has nothing to do with the big government, high taxes, mission creep, welfare fraud, unemployment, and the absolutely massive government spending and debt problem which are the focus points for most conservatives and libertarians. Boot the guy out of office. You have my permission. I know no one who is supporting the guy.

Contrast this with how the Dems went out of their way to enable Bill Clinton's corruption.

Good Ol' Republican Family Values... :1orglaugh

Here is an article which features Davis' campaign positions with regards to gay rights:

Quote:

At a stop at DeSoto County's Lewisburg High School last week, Davis told students: "Any time government gets involved in your lives, it's usually a bad thing."

Morgan Wakham, 18, quizzed Davis about gay marriage and abortion. Davis said he opposes both, but didn't mention that Childers does, too.

"Why?" Wakham asked.

"Because I'm a Christian, and that's what's in the Bible," Davis said, gaining applause from most students.

Wakham persisted, asking Davis if he believes openly gay people should serve in the military. Davis was briefly stumped, but he said military members shouldn't be openly gay for the same reason he believes firefighters shouldn't be -- because it might make others uncomfortable in close sleeping quarters.

Moments later, 18-year-old Trae Stine asked Davis whether black and white firefighters or military members should sleep in the same room if doing so made them uncomfortable. Without hesitation, Davis said race should not be a consideration.

"Then, the person who's uncomfortable's got a problem," Davis said.
Even teenagers can see through the hypocrisy and contradictions. :1orglaugh

Reaction to Davis coming out of the Log Closet:

Quote:

Because some jokes never get old: A man walks into a gay bar. The bartender asks ?What can I get for you?? The man says, ?I would like a Double Hypocrisy with a shot of Self Loathing.? The bartender smiles, ?One GOP Special, coming right up!?

This weeks? astounding hypocrite is Greg Davis, Mayor of Southaven, Mississippi. Not only has this ?family values? Republican been forced out of the closet after running (and losing) on an anti-gay platform for Congress in 2008 but he also used almost $170,000 of tax payer money on personal perks that included a trip to an adult store in Canada that caters to the homosexual crowd (hence, the outing). So, not only a hypocrite but a thief, too.

I feel it is important to make the following distinction: Davis? homosexuality is NOT the problem here. That?s his personal business. Under normal circumstances, this would be an unfortunate turn of events for his marriage and that would be the extent of it as far as we, the public, are concerned.

The problem is same problem as any conservative politician, like David Vitter, that runs on ?family values? and then cheats on his wife (there has been no accusation of this against Davis) or rails against gays while being one. The rank hypocrisy of Republicans in these matters is overwhelming and it speaks to their credibility as a party that they force their members to lie to their constituents about who they are in order to win elections.

If you have to lie about something as fundamental as your sexuality to win support from your base, there is something deeply flawed with your party and your politics.
