That would be my luck. Buy the winning ticket and then lose it.

$77M Powerball Jackpot May Go Unclaimed

Published December 21, 2011

| FoxNews.com

What would you buy first if you won a $77 million lottery? A vacation? A mansion? Your dream car?

Well, if someone doesn't find their ticket by Monday, it will be the state of Georgia deciding what to do with its winnings.

The June 29 winning Powerball ticket with the numbers 24, 30, 45, 57, and 59 and the "Power Ball" of 26, was sold at the Pilot Travel Center truck stop along I-20 in Georgia, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The 180-day deadline to claim the prize money is creeping up without the winner coming forward. "Unclaimed Powerball jackpot prize funds are returned proportionately to each participating state based on that state's sales for the particular drawing," Tandi Reddick, Georgia Lottery spokeswoman, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Multimillion-dollar jackpots normally need to be claimed at Georgia Lottery headquarters, but if the winner tries to claim the money after Thursday, those offices will be closed for Christmas.

actually, you probably have a certain amount of time to claim it, then it reverts back to the lottery:2 cents:

Ouch....

Jarmusch 12-25-2011 05:31 PM

Looks like the winner died of a heart attack when he found out he won.

mrgica 12-25-2011 05:32 PM

Wow that hurts, poor guy that forgot or lost his ticket.

That may not be so far fetched; $77 MIL can do strange things to people including sending them into cardiac arrest.

I just hope if it goes unclaimed whoever bought that ticket never realizes it or for sure they will have heart failure, I know I would.

I also don’t think lottery tickets should ever expire, legally they are bearer bonds and should maintain if not increase in value till they are negotiated.

Buddy didn't realized he had it,It would take me a couple weeks to move and change my personal info to hide out and get my affairs in order.
The criminals would be on your ass just as quick.
