Probably wasn't gay per se but seems to me once all these guys reach the upper echelons of power, they tend to want to taste corruption and perversion in all its varieties, just 'cause....

Anything is possible, but when a writer exposes this in a book he / she is trying to promote... I take it with a grain of salt. Who knows.
