YMCA and other social stuff...
Do you believe in social development that can help you grow, or you are a lone wolf and don't give a single fuck about it?

Young man, there's no need to feel down.
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground. I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town There's no need to be unhappy. |
We joined the Y yesterday for free. I take my kids to use the pool.

I grew up in the middle of no place in NJ, and we had a YMCA by us. It wasn't until I was much older than I understood what the YMCA was. For us, locally, it was a place that invited us to parties every now and then - Christmas parties, Halloween, Thanksgiving, that sort of thing. They had a huge property with multiple lakes that we more or less used as our own, being as we rarely saw anyone at the properly. When I was older I figured out it was really a summer camp for inner city kids. We had no clue growing up.
If that's not odd enough... We knew the property inside and out - we played there and explored there as kids, and when we got older rode dirt bikes (trikes really) on the property. But there was one area that was fenced in and... guarded by armed guards. Turns out the property had radar installation. We should have known being as the road the YMCA was on - which was really just a short drive way - was called "Lockheed Road". If you do a search in google for "lockheed road califon nj" you can see the YMCA building (with the parking lot) and on the end of "lockheed road" was the radar - and now I see a huge paved surface that could serve as a helipad. |
I sent a DMCA to the YMCA.

I haven't spent more then an hour in YMCA in my life, but I sure do have people who help me grow. I find people who have something I want, like a great marriage, and ask them to show me how they got there. I just posted about that in the "bored with women" thread. I've learned a lot from a lot of people and there's a lot more growing I can do.
Over the least few years I've even started to learn from the growing that religious people are trying to do. Sure the mega-church preacher on TV may have some issues, but that Saint Francis guy was on to something. When I put aside my natural tendency to criticize everyone and everything and instead look at where they are right and what I can learn from them I find great stuff in the darndest places. |
