baryl 01-05-2012 08:15 PM

There's always that tense moment when I'm loading a site I just worked hard on into IE and saying "please fucking work"

barcodes 01-05-2012 09:20 PM

Redirect the ie surfers to a simpler less cool version.

papill0n 01-05-2012 09:58 PM

dude everytime I see one of your threads I hurry to check it out because if anyone has their finger on the pulse it is you manno!

I never would have known but thanks to you in a few short weeks not only have I learnt that ie is a shitty browser, video streams can be different qualities but also that people look at the internet on their phones

thanks again!

Or you can pop a google chrome frame on IE6 and below, and
make your sites work with it, thanks to youtube and many google owned properties its commonly installed and forces IE to render using the chrome engine.

IE is the bane of most designers existence, but once you learn how to force it to do certain things it's not that bad.

surly it should work.

raymor 01-06-2012 01:57 AM

Today I was testing a bunch of sites for a large program. I tested in four browsers - Chrome, Seamonkey (my default), Firefox, and Opera. It didn't even occur to me that IE may well have relevant bugs and we don't have it. (IE is not permitted on our network due to security concerns.)

edgeprod 01-06-2012 02:18 AM

I was diehard anti-IE until I installed Windows 8. The integration works for me, for now, until I can embed Firefox in a similar manner.

martinsc 01-06-2012 02:29 AM

each one has pros and cons.... ie is for banks etc (most of them don't work in any other browser), firefox for plugins and addons, chrome for speed:)
I have all three of them open at all times....

dynastoned 01-06-2012 02:36 AM

i can't believe how many people still use IE. it is incredibly annoying when designing a site. everything has to be additionally tweaked just to ensure it works properly on that piece of shit browser.

DVTimes 01-06-2012 11:24 AM

thing is in the uk ie i think is still the main one

in the usa people feel ok to use firfox, but its starting to take off more in the uk

but remeber a lot of people are not teck minded and will just use ie as it comes with a pc.

i find ie loads quick while firfox takes ages to load.

i use ie becase i see no reason not to.

WTF I thought this thread was bumped from years back:1orglaugh

On a serious note, give netscape navigator a shot.

Incidentally, GFY is all fucked up under Windows 8, using the bundled IE. Looks fine in Mozilla under Windows 8.

The useragent for what it's cocked up on:

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.0; Windows NT 6.2; Trident/6.0)

Specifically, IE10. Could be good to get in front of it before public release.

DVTimes 01-06-2012 03:15 PM

the thing is, one must not presume people will use other browsers.

one must presume that they will use ie and/or firfox.

its ok for the it crowd as they are into this stuff, but joe average is not.

the question to ask is why would they use a browser other that ie.

do not presume ie is not to be used.

i have gone on serveral sites that see#m not to work with ie, but worse still is that NONE of the sites say the site may not work with ie, thus simply presume the site does not work.

recently i had problems logging into ccbill stats with ie, so i had to use firfox, but only after a tech told me to. i simply presumed the site was not working.

often i find its entering data say in a password box does not work in ie. you enter, press return and nothing happends.

V_RocKs 01-06-2012 03:30 PM

Seems Chrome is begging to suck too... Was so good for so long... Now random video freeze and often non-random video freezes...

VIXEN ESCORTS 01-06-2012 07:21 PM

Dvtimes really does just post random shit for the sake of it..........

When is the least time you checked? We banned IE from our network around 2001 or 2002 and ran into that some the first few years, but I can't recall any problems at all in the last three years, since Firefox took a significant market share. It seems that the rise of Firefox forced pretty much every site to get away from IE only crap.

Fyi my main browser, with which I've experienced no problems, is Firefox's big brother Seamonkey. It's kind of like "Firefox for grownups as opposed to the more dumbed down Firefox interface.
