ASSET MANAGEMENT - what's your process?

I know we all have our own ways of organizing our assets - in this case content in the form of photos, videos, various models shot for multiple sites over years - so.. my question to you is, what's do you use for asset management? For years I just made folders with the date of the shoot and the theme of the shoot and a short three letter intro to signify the model (i'm talking about LOCALLY on your hard drives, not online or on your sites)

I still do. I use lightroom, but I'm fairly certain that has to be a better way to organize this stuff.. so - I came here. I did a search. I didn't find what i was looking for. Can anyone direct me to a thread should it already exist on this topic, or if not would you be so kind as to share your method of managing your content locally - because it's sort of unruly, the way I'm doing it..

thank you!~

I would say, take a good look at Elevated X, yes indeed it's not for locally stored content, but why bother about storing it locally when you can have it all on a content server?

AJ is on top of things and is very nice to deal with!

I use 9x12 envelops in a file cab with docs and content on BD disk, as well as HD backups... always by date with me... 120111 etc... then a doc on my machine with dates and names...
