Youtube should be left the fuck alone.

The "If it's not broke, don't try to fix it" rule should apply...

seeandsee 01-09-2012 01:23 PM

i know people will hate new stuff ... but new MAIL really sucks... i dont know what they are trying with it... its hard to work when all looks like dead horse

vomidC 01-09-2012 01:40 PM

they make chages very often.dont like it at all

Rochard 01-09-2012 02:08 PM

I'm okay with it. Just took some getting used to it.

Mike Honcho 01-09-2012 02:10 PM

You can still revert back to the old theme, in the settings menu.

SCORE Ralph 01-09-2012 02:53 PM

I love it. The changes make sense to me.

PenisFace 01-09-2012 02:58 PM

I don't mind the redesign. Could be better, could be worse.

LeRoy 01-09-2012 03:00 PM

You'll get used to it...

or find another resource if it bugs you that much.

Feel free to pay for an IMAP service if you don't like the one you are getting for free.

Not for long.

I check my email with an old computer. Hey! Its fucking email! This new Gmail works so slowly on my old comp that its almost useless. The mystery meat icons are big plus, though!

V_RocKs 01-09-2012 03:04 PM

gmail is actually better... new analytics sucks

Yes because clearly there is a point when you get to any design where it JUST CAN'T BE IMPROVED EVER.

/sarcasm

Seriously, do you think these guys don't know what they are doing? You don't think they tested and tested and tested the new design and had to prove to the board it was for the best for the business?

Do you think some kid in the lab is just fucking about?

I don't understand why people in porn don't learn from mainstream that a design is NEVER as good as can get. That there is NEVER room for improvement.

Give me your join page, I will improve it, for free, split test it. If I am not right, don't pay me. Serious offer.

There's a difference between a design/sales page/... and a user interface. Whether it's and OS (think Vista), email client (or webbased email client) or another program, any change to an interface people use on a daily basis will mess up their 'flow'. It will require active thought to do something they otherwise would be doing almost automatically without thinking. People are creatures of habit. They don't like having to re-learn things.

Google is in the business of making money. This design will make them more money.

Don't like it, pay for an email server, job done.

But seriously, why do so so so so many people in porn never split test and never improve their shit? Laziness? Incompetence? I can't believe so few people actually do anything to improve their shit.

Nobody claimed that.

Why do you think TheHun never changed his design in all those years?

Change isn't always required, and certainly isn't always effective in a good way...

Never disputed that.

I don't use them. I don't like them and I think it's way too risky to base an essential part of your business on a free hosted service you have no control over.

No one disputed Google's financial motives or the utility of split testing, of trying new sales tools etc. OP and most people in this thread were talking about the impact of changes to a user interface on the end user.

Buzz 01-09-2012 04:46 PM

that's what I thought when I first switched to it, but now after a month of suing it I think it's fine

So you think that a site is at some point, "finished". As good as it could be. Could never be improved?

Hehe.

Most people were complaining they had improved their UI/design.

This amused me.

I think this is an important aspect to take into consideration when (thinking about) changing a user interface (as opposed to a sales page): user alienation. I'm not saying changing a user interface will result in a mass exodus, but it does have consequences.

About 5 years ago a client switched his entire office to Apple/MacOS. The reason: Windows Vista. At that time, new PCs came with Vista and Microsoft had already announced they would stop supporting XP. He had tried a laptop with Vista and didn't like the design changes. To make a long story short: his initial frustration (the "hey wtf? this is not Windows a I know it"-sentiment) resulted in him making a decision he would otherwise not have made: taking the time to look at alternatives.

I still remember when he said: "If I have to retrain people to use a new OS, it might as well be MacOS".

I'm sure at least one person at google thought about that, at least for a few minutes.

You really are a dumb fuck. If the new UI was an improvement then we would not be complaining. :winkwink:

a) If you paid for a business essential rather than relying on a free service you wouldn't have to complain.

b) They will have done massive testing and obviously decided this was better

c) They don't care what you think, and moaning about a free service is lame

Amen, 90% of the so called upgrades I have seen in the last 5 years just make the services worse.

I think dumber people are getting bigger jobs because of bogus degrees.
