So what do they want from you?

MrBottomTooth 01-11-2012 12:36 PM

Don't think they can do anything to you in Canada....yet. Laws might be changing soon though.

st0ned 01-11-2012 12:42 PM

Giganews + VyprVPN ftw.

babymaker 01-11-2012 12:43 PM

LOL. I guess they figure the email alone might scare you straight.

Would be interesting to know what they would do if you responded saying you were not going to remove it. I wonder if cogeco would shut off your service.

I wonder if replying with removed is an admission of guilt then they hit you with a fine. Open wireless excuse FTW.

Actually Videotron (Canadian company) has been sending those letters out for awhile.

I'm with Videotron and it's common practice, although fairly new. Received one last month.

The way it works is that a company grabbed your IP(mine was caught because I downloaded from a fake torrent) and sent a complain to your ISP. They do that massively.

Your ISP cannot give your personal information to these guys except under court order.

candyflip 01-11-2012 01:14 PM

If they're baiting you with fake torrents, then you didn't really download their product but rather only intended to.

I don't know how something like that would fly.

And the undercover cop is not really a hooker so you didn't really pay for some pussy
so where is the case? Right?

anexsia 01-11-2012 01:31 PM

I've gotten 4 of those already, my ISP doesn't seem to care...although I imagine if you start to rack them up and they become frequent I believe they cut your connection.

Klen 01-11-2012 01:35 PM

You going to jail pal :)

It goes worse than that. I have friends in the videogame Industry admitting that. They will actually create a fake torrent, with a torrented version of their own game, in order to catch people. This is really a bold move.

MarkDeus 01-11-2012 01:43 PM

goddamn, why does this board keeps on quoting the wrong messages? This is annoying..

Wanted to quote Candyflip

MikeFlirt 01-11-2012 01:45 PM

You are a retard to I wouldn't expect you to know that the act of solicitation itself is against the law. Paying for it is a completely different thing. THAT is how the cops are able to legally get away with that sort of entrapment and raise oa few bucks for their town/city/county.

Juicy D. Links 01-11-2012 04:07 PM

Cox Cable suspended my internet a year ago, in such a way that all requests were sent to a website telling me that I was suspended for downloading a UFC event. It listed the filename that I downloaded along with the filesize, and made me click some checkboxes and agree to some terms and conditions that I would remove the file and never download torrents again... Once I clicked that I agreed, my internet worked again.

They are not fake torrents, but additional seeds thru which they get your IP ..

Has been going on for quite a while .. It really pissed me off as I was downloading Network TV shows such as Law & Order .
But the same company will sell you a PVR to record the same shows ( they become the sharers .. ) .

Hmmm, perhaps reply with "appropriate action has been taken".

Fris, do you know if your work has been stolen in a similar manner?

JuicyBunny 01-11-2012 07:19 PM

Ghadafi's wife just hit me up to share $18 million. Anyone have a bank account?

Did anyone else get her email today? She has a gmail account and everything...must be legit.

Afte seeing some cool products touted at CES it seems like most popular manufacturers will be able to track whats on your machine soon. The ones who arent doing it already, like MS

I was going to bootleg some stuff and I was wondering about this kind of shit https://www.google.com/search?aq=f&s...orrent+privacy .. Does that shit really work? Is it just a proxy? Is it fast enough?

I really need to look into VPNs, everyone says they're amazing .. .are they fast enough?

I really haven't bootlegged anything in years.. Back then gnutella clients were the way to go... I remember they started flooding the networks with fake files / bait files and it wasn't worth it any more. I've always been against using torrents because I knew people who had their internet suspended and I don't need to end up a john doe either - LOL

JustJ 01-11-2012 08:38 PM

I better not see any of you bitching about tubes or porn piracy...

Indeed. I fucking love how it's 'cool' to steal tv shows, music and movies but 'bad' to steal porn.

Hypocritical cunts.

bloggingseo 01-12-2012 01:44 AM

That happened to me way back in 2005! Freaked me out!

stop grouping "stealing" movies you didn't pay for

with re aquiring tv shows that you did pay for.

i got one notice from bell it was regarding lost
2 hours of research a letter to bell documenting my timeshifting rights

and a clear documentation about how releasing my info (before they proved that timeshifting didn't apply to a court of law) would violate my rights under pipedia and i have never gotten another one yet.

I feel sad for you -- that you wasted bandwidth and the threat of ISP harrassment over Hostel Part 3. You come off looking like a really smart guy here. Great ethics too.

cooldude7 01-12-2012 07:38 AM

so hows the hostel part 3 ?

looks like you are going to jail for watching hostel., lol j/k.
