What does "EV" really do on CDMA phones?

I have read over the years that it is completely not useful and can be disabled to save battery life. I've also heard that if you disable it, your service will suck in some areas because some towers require it. I just got another V9M and the battery life sucks - of course - and I can buy a battery meant for another phone which is more powerful (about 20%) ... but if I can just disable some stupid thing, that'd be easier. . .

Thank you GFY gurus

EVDO is how your phone transfers data.

i Don't know enough to answer your question directly, but I use http://rootzwiki.com when I need to get answers on android devices. Many of their forums are about carriers and cellphone makes etc. You might try there for an answer.

The V9M is a Razr, it's not a smart phone.
