Not much of a stance taken by google. Putting a black bar over their logo...meh. At least wikipedia has some balls.

atom 01-17-2012 10:31 PM

agreed, I would love to see google take down their site and youtube. that would really get people moving.

Socks 01-17-2012 10:32 PM

Google has a board to answer to.

Zoxxa 01-17-2012 10:36 PM

Yeah, they'd get everyone to support piracy if they did that. :thumbsup

They're using a CSS overlay, if you hit esc at the right point you can still see the content.

Real balls would be 503'ing every page.

blackmonsters 01-18-2012 05:01 AM

The irony is that the only censorship occurring is self imposed black outs to protest
censorship that isn't happening.

Emil 01-18-2012 05:03 AM

How many people use Google anyway.
Altavista ftw.

DamageX 01-18-2012 05:06 AM

I'm sure all these blackouts are gonna accomplish a big load of... fuck all.

CaptainHowdy 01-18-2012 06:17 AM

Wikipedia doesn't have to answer to shareholders, nor do they legal obligations to share holders.

Si 01-18-2012 08:50 AM

Hasn't SOPA been shelved? What is the other one looking like? Think it is called PIPA.

Google has a million computers if anyone can take a stance

SmutHammer 01-18-2012 09:30 AM

Hopefully this will give congress a push to pass SOPA and show everyone they don't respond to terrorist attacks on the Internet.

Failed 01-18-2012 10:26 AM

Yes, Google has much more at stake, and they are leagues beyond wiki and reddit in corporate structure (if wiki and reddit have any at all). But, that would have drawn some attention, and opened a lot of eyes. At least they did something, I suppose.

glamourmodels 01-18-2012 10:39 AM

Everyone from San Francisco sucks cock.

Oh sorry, I thought we were making stereotypical generalizations on this thread.

My bad-

It's still nice to see the internet working together. Think of it as a fire drill.

Nautilus 01-18-2012 12:36 PM

That's some blackout indeed. Greedy scammers wouldn't even shut down for an hour because they love every cent they earn by sending surfers to piracy sites.

Delist thepiratebay and other sites that get too many DMCAs, and there wouldn't be any need for SOPA/PIPA or any other muthafucka. Your greed and lack of self-regulation ability (again, because of greed) is the only reason this kind of legislation is even necessary.

Yeah just like an uprising of fleas against a new insecticide.
