The Republicans set the President up for a political ploy to use against him during this election year...knowing that Nebraska had said no and knowing that two months was not enough time to do an environmental study. Politics as usual is all that is in play here.

beerptrol 01-18-2012 07:22 PM

how about they reroute it through the wealthiest neighborhoods in the districts of those republicans

Spunky 01-18-2012 07:25 PM

It's discrimination against Canadians yet again

porno jew 01-18-2012 07:28 PM

hope canada invades over this.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PRESIDENT OBAMA for being TOUGH against this bullshit pipeline!

PornoJew: You need to stop calling Obama a communist. People who call him that are on par with people who call him a socialist, or a Kenyan, or are a birther, etc. It's just plain ignorant.

The pipeline was bullshit from the beginning. It would not have created jobs. It would have been an ecological disaster. It would wreck the areas around the pipeline, it was too close to too many water masses that Canadians and Americans rely on for fresh drinking and irrigation water. The Canadian Tar Sands are some of the most polluted, most improperly managed and most toxic places on the planet. The companies that extra oil from the Tar Sands do not deserve any more business until they become ALOT more friendly to the environment and clean that shit up, not to mention the OTHER Tar sands eco disasters known as the holding ponds.

Alberta Cancer rates are already way up thanks t0 230 Square Kilometres (!!!) of once pristine land which was converted into an oil reservoir. Cancer rates at nearby areas is also up 30%. Millions of gallons of fresh water are used to steam out the the gas creating not just water pollution in the run-off, but millions of tons of Carbon Dioxide and other poisons from the steam it generates. They are destroying the entire Boreal Forest in Alberta just to get more oil. The Tar Sands are a huge fucking embarrassment to Canadians.

This was a bad deal for everyone except the oil companies. I as a Canadian am thrilled that this bullshit deal was shot down.

They already did the environmental impact study. The study said impact was minimal. The solar people and other anti-energy oeople didn't like that, so they wanted to keep doing it again until they get the answer they want.

PornoMonster 01-18-2012 08:27 PM

The pipeline is already in place in some states.

Dcat 01-18-2012 08:28 PM

Who cares, we're going to pipe it over to Kitimat and sell it to China anyways.

My guess is that Keystone XL will eventually go ahead, BUT after the US elections.. Obama will alienate too many of his Liberal Greentard base if he approves it before the elections.

PornoMonster 01-18-2012 08:37 PM

If we have cheaper oil coming in from Canada, then we don't have a reason to fight a war in the middle East, Duhh...

what does this have to do with free enterprise? So in your model free enterprise is where the government imposes a pipeline on people who dont want it?

the people in those states said they didn't want it - free enterprise means the tar sands people are free to find another way to solve their problem.

if the majority of the people who own the land dont want it, thats free enterprise in action. Those people are also free to make decisions. or did you miss the part where lots of people in those states were against it? The people who wanted it were the unions and the carbon companies.

there's more than one way to the ocean. work the problem, don't whine about it.

papill0n 01-18-2012 08:47 PM

what sort of a fucking utter idiot would have a problem with stopping anything to do with oil sand mining ?????

the most destructive, expensive and ridiculous way to generate energy you could think of

Operator 01-18-2012 08:50 PM

It is my understanding that Nebraska either said no...or at least said no...until a more thorough study was done...and the federal government is saying that a new study will take 12 to 18 months to do...especially if the pipeline has to be rerouted.

Well except that war in the middle East causes the price of oil to rise, not fall and Canada is already the number one supplier of oil for the USA. Don't let the facts get in your way though. :thumbsup

Obama socialist who was raised by communists. You cant deny that FACT !!!

slavdogg 01-18-2012 09:37 PM

Are you guys aware that there is already a pipeline from Canada down to Texas through Nebraska ?? Yes it's called a Keystone pipeline owned and managed by TransCanada.

That pipeline currently can only support 500k barrels or day.
The new pipeline Keystone XL was going to be build alone the existing pipeline route and would support additional 900k barrels per day.

Not very complicated, but lets not let the facts get in the way
