Email Traffic
 

I've never done any email marketing in my life. I've never sent any email with a link to my site in it unless it was to hosting or a sponsor for support. Yet, all of a sudden, I'm seeing traffic show up in my stats from mail.aol, mail.yahoo, mail.live, etc. Can someone fill me in on why I would all of a sudden be seeing traffic from all of the free email providers at the same time?

Any ideas?

Someone probably liked something about your site and sent the link to friends.

This usually happens when another webmaster wants to make you appear as a spammer and eliminate his/her competition, no?

I was going to suggest that, especially if you are ranking well for a program that expressly forbids email traffic, which would be a pretty high percentage of them.

For this reason, I generally steer clear of those social sharing buttons and plugins since so many include an email function.
