WOOHOO!!!!

If they take down Oron or Rapidshare next we will start to see a serious turnaround as the scumbags run like hell and shutdown in fear! And if they hit the pirate tubes next by some miracle we might at least start converting like 2007 (though not 1999) again. :1orglaugh

Why rapidshare? They haven't been big in adult for a long time. Do you know of any blog/forum that still posts alot of rapidshare links? I don't.

Filesonic is our guy, and they have a huge stake in the maintream/hollywood movie piracy too so they must be shitting their pants right now.

To be honest I mentioned them because they were one of the first ones along with Megaupload's sister sites. I think if Rapidshare disappears it will put fear in the hearts of many of these owners and some of the users will think twice too. But yes it would be better to take out the real threats first. I'll go along with what you said.

stocktrader23 01-20-2012 04:49 PM

I'm going to convert these starving Indians into affiliates.

signupdamnit 01-20-2012 04:52 PM

I wonder if it might be a good idea to send emails to some of these guy's support addresses which are suspicious and may possibly be construed as to look like it might be an entrapment attempt by a three letter agency? No illegal misrepresentation, mind you. Just something subtle to possibly put some fear in the owners should it get back to them. <strokes chin>

I agree with you about rapidshare, but oron is amongst the absolute worst offenders.

They're is the slowest when it comes to acting on DMCA as well and that's when they choose not to ignore it altogether :disgust

You'll have an easier time convincing creationists about Darwin.

People who went to Megaupload to download their porns obviously found it impossible to find any other fileshare site or tube to fap over, so immediately pulled out a credit card they had hidden up their ass all along, and ran to the nearest porn site to sign up, obviously stopping along the way to click through an affiliate link of someone on GFY first. That's how it works.

OneHungLo 01-20-2012 05:05 PM

As i said you will see many of these guys tuck tail and run. They probably never thought they would be looking at 50+ years in the pen for what they are doing.

Gotcha. Yes rapidshare is very symbolic, but honestly I do not think they're going to get busted - they dropped their rewards program almost two years ago, they do really remove master file upon recieving a take down request, they block infringing files by hash value so they cannot be easily reuploaded, and probably the most important of all they have a long record of strong anti-piracy statements made by their officials. Not just hilarious "we're legal because we think so" made by MU ppl, but real ones, backed by real action. So unless there's a log of recent e-mails somewhere showing them encouraging infringment, or money laundering scheme going on, I think they're safe.

I think rapidshare is actually the wisest of the bunch - they got big on piracy but back pedaled of it just in time and although they lost huge amount of traffic because of it, they capitalized on their popularity into the legit file exchange market. I know many companies are using them to swap files between branches, honestly I'm even thinking myself about getting premium account for studio uploads because it's cheaper and faster than running our own exchange server which we're using for that currently. The only thing that is stopping me is that it's rapidshare that sucked alot of our blood back then.

It wouldn't surprise me if MU actually beat this. They may even beat extradition. What people allegedly wrote to each other 5 years ago in emails seems weak to me and the rest of it seems to be all about how many cars they owned. AFAIK making money is not illegal. Either way this will drag on for years without any verdict, let alone a guilty one. And nobody will end up doing 50+ years inside.

Yes oron is the absolute worst, closely followed by filesonic, there's no argument over this. Not only they never remove the master file and never ban repeat offenders, but they also provide APIs for instant link replacements, meaning when one set of generated links goes down upon DMCA take down request (which them both take their time to process), new links get posted often within minutes automatically. With such a blatant assistance from filehosts, it makes fighting copyright infringment an uphill battle. Basically, unwinnable. You can never get rid even of the known links when you find them, no matter how many DMCAs you send, they just keep reappearing at the same place. Not that it is possible to find all links, but at least when you find them, you expect that you send DMCA and game over. Not so anymore, with oron and filesonic leading the game.

I sure hope those two are the next target at the fed list, getting rid of them is sure going to make a real difference in the adult piracy scene.

xenigo 01-20-2012 05:47 PM

I still see a lot of RS links on piracy forums and niche specialty forums... Although it does seem as if they don't work more often than not.

Just because they make an announcement about their affiliate program today, doesn't mean they could not re-open it tomorrow. I think right now you are seeing a knee jerk reaction to the latest news.

However, I can assure you they are thinking hard on ways to get around it. Especially considering the amount of money they are apparently making off their various websites, traffic, premium memberships, etc.. I would bet they are hashing it out now with their legal counsels.

:2 cents:

Of course they wont do 50 years. They will more than likely take a plea deal and serve 2-10 years. Nobody risks going to trial, especially against the US government.

Rarely do you see people go to trial and if they do the US has a 90%+ conviction rate. And when you get convicted you get the 50 years.

Oh and you do 85% of fed time since they have no parole.

Why 01-20-2012 06:40 PM

Rapidshare isnt going anywhere, they are firmly in Switzerland which does not agree whatsoever with the US outlook on copyright infringement currently and reiterated that earlier this year. They have also always been very helpful to anyone i know looking to do takedowns, despite the fact the DMCA is not enforceable on them. they also remove all files with the same checksum, unlike MU.

Oron on the other hand, i hope has their assets seized, as they are clearly running an illegal business with blatant disregard for international law.

That being said, i am not a supporter of killing peoples business without due process and a fair day in court.

True, but the problem wouldn't be to get around the current law as much as worrying about a pending indictment coming down.

If their legal council is familiar with the US Federal sentencing guidelines, I'll bet they are telling them to take the money and run and hope the US gov. wasn't investigating them, too.

And really good legal counsel will ask them for $1 Million dollar retainer to defend them
and laugh like hell when they get convicted.

Copyrights in all Western countries are based on the Bern convention, now guess in which country Bern is? So that makes Switzerland the craddle of copyright laws. Also, watersports, scat, hard sm, bestiality and cp content are illegal in Switzerland while RapidShare is the biggest Swiss distributor of these niches so I wouldn't be too sure about whether RapidShare isn't violating any other Swiss laws.

Yeah right, file lockers killing small independent content producers and software developers, now THAT'S fair!

Laws are laws, we're all supposed to know and respect them and the laws on copyrights are clear and simple: keep your hands of the intelligent properties of others.

Rapidshare is still one of the biggest mp3 trading services on the net, but hey if its not porn you guy dont care about piracy and will use their service (in fact many here trade mp3s and copy dvds and see no problem with it)
