One poor kid, with a $400 laptop compared to a bunch of rich kids with $1500 laptops.

It real comes down to the Apple OS vs. Winbloz. The acer hardware isn't bad but the Apple OS is far superior.

Willing to bet the university gets a heft discount on them and then resells them to the students.

On a related, or unrelated note...I got an email about a class action lawsuit against Acer for not providing proper back up utilities. I can get a free disc :thumbsup

For my tower that is a bookend.

Apple os isnt superior. It only has to run on four or five models all built by the same people who built the os. Where windows has to run and does run on probably on a million different configurations. I had a macbook pro and sold it. i really didnt like the os and besides a killer screen I felt like I got fucked hard for the price and for what I got.

The Acer notebook I got in a contest has been broken since almost day 1. The left arrow key somehow crushed in on itself. It works, but it's not normal. Also, the headphone jack has well known issues due to bad realtek firmware. Doesnt work.

In addition to that, the wireless network card uses 90+% of the CPU if I turn it on (now I use a 100ft cable instead to reach my router), and the system always powers up with 3 or 4 other hardware items disabled no matter how hard I try to keep them enabled.

It could of been a bad one. I have three acer laptops and one is over 3 yrs old and runs flawlessly. They do have the worse customer support on the planet I would give apple that, the times I called they were very helpful. But for the price of a mac I can buy two acers.

Looks like apple set this picture up. I doubt any class would have that amount of apple computers. Sorry about your luck PR_Tom, with electronics there is allways going to be a bad batch, luckily I have zero problems with my computers running windows.
