kind of a 'how long is a piece of string' question - each genre has its own, and is fully judged by personal taste

but 3 good ones for my taste from 3 genres

Civilization 3

World of Warcraft

I'd say the Fallout series as a whole would be #1 overall. The first installment was RPG of the year in '98. Fallout 2 is touted by many as being the best computer game of all time. Hell I even love Fallout Tactics. These early installments still have a huge and very loyal online community and are heavily modded for even more playability.

The newer versions of it are great too. Fallout 3 and FO New Vegas, and all their add-ons and extensions etc are huge right now. I just flat-out love the whole series, but I've always been a huge fan of the post-apocalyptic genre.

The ending to 3 was definitely weird. If you haven't played the originals, FO 1&2, I suggest you do. They're not 1st person shooters by any stretch, like most of today's games, but if you get into them they'll give you literally 100's (if not more) hours of gameplay, which is UNlike many newer games.

The "Best" is subjective and there's really no right answer. A better question might have been what was the most IMPORTANT video game ever made. SPACE WAR (60's) was the game that really started it all. PONG was the first commercial system not including the Space War Demo's I think), and Space Invaders and Pacman were very fun, very easy to play yet difficult to master : All components of any game that should be considered "best".

SmutHammer 01-29-2012 02:24 PM

Halo, Call of Duty, Guitar Hero

Funny when you think of the outcry when that first came out, especially when you see what's in games now...

Leisure Suit Larry (5 & 6)!
Full Throttle
Beavis and Butt-head in Virtual Stupidity

Okay maybe not the best, but I use to love the classic adventure puzzle games!

Star Wars Jedi Outcast II (Online sabre duels were so dope)
Command and Conquer
Warcraft 3

My all time favorite game would be Ultima Online.

There are plenty of games that look awesome but most of them are forgotten within a short periode of time. World of Warcraft got my vote. I jumped on seven years ago and still like it. Tried LOTS of other game but they die quickly. World of Warcraft still lives on. That gotte count for something.

The problem with wow is it presents zero challenge and ive lvled healers, mages, I 80ed quite few all horde it gets very boring click click button mash rotation ... cataclysm sounded cool now u got kung fu pandas... The game is just a long grind no challenge at all... now old wow before expansions was bomb

If we go by "game-changer", I'd say Half Life back in '99.

Personal favorite would be Uncharted 2.
