HostGator wants Photo id for a hosting account? Umm no

Needing another hosting account I signed up with HostGator since I thought I saw it recommended here. They want a scan of my photo id and a scan of my CC. Thank you but I will be doing business elsewhere. Why in the world would they need this info. If the CC clears and there are no problems I fail to see why they need this info.

Rothstein 02-13-2012 07:19 PM

have had over 100 accounts there and they've never asked me for that once.

keysync 02-13-2012 07:20 PM

Fuck that.
Use Amerinoc
That's who I use and never had a problem.
I switched from Hostgator because they are assholes. :2 cents:

Hello,

Thank you for your order with HostGator.com!

In order for us to continue with the account setup, please respond to this ticket with a scanned copy of a Photo ID such as as a passport, or drivers license. In addition to a photo ID, please include a scanned copy of the credit card that was used in your account purchase (assuming you purchased a hosting account with a credit card). For security purposes you can mask off all the digits of the card number except for the last 4 digits.

We sincerely appreciate your cooperation here, and look forward to working with you.

Nope from the good old USA, no number was provided

adulttraffic 02-13-2012 07:46 PM

Call them? Perhaps they can give you more info as to why they want all this documentation.
I wouldn't send shit to them either.

Dear Customer,

We apologize if our verification process seems excessive, however please understand this process is in place to protect our customers, as well as ourselves from fraud.

If you do not wish to proceed with your new order, then no further action needs to be taken on your part. We have not yet completed any charges for your purchase; it was only a pre-authorization. If you have purchased your account by PayPal, this authorization will be reversed with 48 hours, however if you have paid with a credit card, it may take 5-7 business days to reflect in your bank account.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Regards,

Why do I have to verify my new order?

We carefully evaluate new accounts to determine high risk orders. Please do not take it personally if you are asked to verify a new account, as you may have been selected randomly.

There is a lot of fraud for us Hosting Companies, but with a little experience and monitoring we can usually tell who is real and who is a scammer. Sorry for the hassle but probably a blessing in disguise there severs are super slow and over sold.

CurrentlySober 02-14-2012 02:34 AM

Could be a LOT worse...

I signed up for hosting back in 2001, and they wanted all of the above, plus 'Fan Signs' of me in ladies underwear, holding Paper signs saying that they 'rocked'...
