Animal Lovers...

no, this is not a bestiality thread... ;-)

For the animal lovers here:

Do you buy or adopt/rescue?

Do you feel animals are in most ways better than humans?

Are your animals truly your family or "just pets"?

All of our animals, from our dogs and cats to our rats and hamster are rescued animals. I understand people who love puppies and getting them "untainted" but always wish I could rescue more dogs from shelters and abusive home situations.

I often feel closer to my animals than I do to most people. They are more unconditional in their love and loyalty and in many ways "better people".

Our animals are definitely our family....sometimes to the point of being big pains in the ass, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

My girl Oscar was a wild kitten. I grabbed her just after she was weened.Although she still has wild in her at times and very vocal, she's a great cat. She's like the kid I never had and would do anything for her.

I rescued my cat from the SPCA. The poor thing was found pregnant and alone on the streets of Montreal in February. She was taken in by an amazing foster home, all her kittens were adopted into loving homes and then I was able to take her home. She's the sweetest cat imaginable and she is definitely part of my family. I love humans and animals alike, but animals do make it easier to love them sometimes...

We bought Rajah as a young puppy. We have a 9 year old and we didn't think it wise to take on a dog we had not trained ourselves. If it were just Eva and I, a rescued stray would of been saved.

The last thing we wanted was some unknown personality in the house, 35+ kilos of muscle, a set of teeth and a bad temperament. And young children. Rajah will let little children pull him around, take his food and he does nothing. He thinks it's a game, because I trained him to think it's a game.

Yesterday I put his lunch in his bowl and left him in his room to eat it. I did not tell him to eat it and 20 minutes later, wondering where he was, I found him sitting staring at his food. I didn't tell him to "Eat".

Yes.

Animals are not... :2 cents:

I love all of my pets... One of my cats is a rescue, the other bought from a legit breeder. One of my dogs was also bought from a legit breeder and the other was picked from a litter for free.

One of the things that pisses me off on GFY a lot of the time is when somone posts an animal cruelty thread, and the same names pop up with "it's just an animal, who cares?"

If that's their first reaction to seeing an animal being tortured or whatever, it's worrying. Whether you are a big animal lover or not, if your first reaction to watching something suffer needlessly is "who cares?" then that doesn't say much for that person at all.

I've lost count of the amount of times i've seen someone say "so, there's hungry kids in Africa" after watching an animal(s) get tortured to death...

Along the same line of thinking... you just said all people are cunts. :winkwink:

You'll soon change your mind when Zuckerberg launches Catbook and Dogbook and you can read the retarded stuff animals write...

I usually try to adopt puppies from the pound when its time for a new friend. A lot of the rescues, at least here are no kill. It's depressing an animal should have to stay in that kind of a situation but I would rather pick up a puppy that only has a few weeks to find someone before they get put to sleep. I got two labs, both wonderful dogs. Another thing I heard is black dogs for some reason have less chances of being adopted. I don't know if there is any truth to that though.

A human, a dog, a speeding car ... I get to push one to safety ... it's the dog almost every time.

When you bring pets into your family, they become like family in a sense.

They do not supplant my connections with humans, but help me understand other creatures better, and so we develop a bond.

All of my pets over the years, I've picked up from friends that were giving them away, so in a way, they become a part of both of our families.

I have a breeder bought Labrador Retriever --- but knowing what I know now, I'll adopt the next time and probably try to find a Lab mix.

nikki99 02-16-2012 01:39 PM

I love kittens

suesheboy 02-16-2012 04:07 PM

All of my cats are rescued.

DudeRick 02-16-2012 04:08 PM

Yah, my last 3 dogs have been rescues, its a great way to go. The only charity that I give to is for aging dogs that get dumped at pounds due to the cost of their medical needs.

eroticsexxx 02-16-2012 08:07 PM

6 dogs. 5 were rescues.

They're family.

I have a black dog who is following me wherever I go, including the gym or anywhere else. Sometimes is funny but sometimes when he byte people there isn`t anymore...
And I have few cats (can`t count them because they are too many) witch are getting together in my garden.
I feed any animal I found if I have food with me. Any food rest after we eat goes to animals.
I love them!

John-ACWM 02-17-2012 03:26 AM

I have an adopted dog for 12 years now. As for good or bad, there are amongst humans and animals.
