Sorry, but I don't have much respect for someone that was given such an amazing gift, and such total success, and the ability and resources to do so much good in the world, and instead chose to throw it away in order to get high, to the point where she killed herself.

Total waste, and I have no respect for that.

That doesn't change the fact that she has indeed been sober for the last 7 days.

She was a crack head who just happened to be a great singer.
There is nothing disrespectful about slamming on a dead crack head who did not have love or respect for herself.
She had her hay day, but in the later years she was nothing but a loser who chose to be that way.

While a potentially deadly mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol
were initially fingered as the possible cause of death, the Los Angeles County coroner's office has withheld announcing a definitive cause pending the results of the toxicology tests. In the meantime, subpoenas have been issued

Don't feel too bad that you don't know. Many people like yourself mistakenly think addiction is simply a matter of willpower.

Knowledge is power.

Addiction always starts with a choice. Full stop.

There are no neural signatures of addiction. No gene has been discovered that makes somebody an addict.

Sorry, it's a nice way of making addicts feel not so bad about themselves when in reality the problem is always themselves.

epitome 02-17-2012 04:28 PM

Addiction is not a disease. If we are going to call it a disease, we need to call it an easily curable one. It's simple if somebody wants to stop.

raymor 02-17-2012 04:31 PM

Disrespectful, inappropriate, and funny.

That's one definition of addiction - when one has lost the power of choice. Later they may be offered a choice to put in the extreme effort to recover or not at a time when they can see the truth about themselves. They may be born with the genetic variety of alcoholism, for example, and later, after finding that out, they have a choice of what to do about it.

Certainly many addicts aren't weak people. Think of all the extremely successful people who are / were addicts or alcoholics. Willpower is simply as useless against addiction as it is against a Colt .45. Until ...

Some addicts and alcoholics get to a point where even they can see that it is killing them, where the disease can no longer chili's them completely to the obvious truth. If at that point in time they are introduced to other addicts who have recovered, THEN they have a choice - follow the same difficult path to recovery, or not. Sometimes they are shown a path to recovery based on spiritual principles and for some the choice between spiritual life and alcoholic death is a difficult choice to make.

lol it has nothing to do with making addicts feel not bad you imbecile :1orglaugh

Every former addict is well aware of their part in the onset of addiction, and are also well aware the problem is within themselves. What with you being a total fucking moron though, I wouldn't expect you to understand that :thumbsup

No neural signatures - go click that link I provided. No gene - go click that link I provided. You're about as knowledgeable about addiction as markham is about traffic. You think, therefore you presume. Dumbass :1orglaugh

Agreed. :thumbsup

Rationality is completely gone in the grip of addiction, so any 'choice' is completely irrational - therefore, 'choice' as we know it, simply doesn't come into it (at the time of addiction).

Or maybe all those mother's who can't give up their addiction even for the love of their children are just being greedy, and 'choose' to feed their addiction, even if it means losing their kids. Jesus, you couldn't make up some of the retarded shit that holier-than-thou cunts who have never been through an addiction spew :1orglaugh

While I can be bothered - isn't it only 6 days sober for Whitney? I thought it was sat night/sun morning she died?
