I was helping a friend move a treadmill from his rec room and i got to thinking , most people just watch tv or stare at the wall doing the treadmill. It would be nice to be able to actually go somewhere ( virtually ).

Like if you had a large tv on the wall with something like google streetview on it but better.

it would pick up the treadmill speed or your step speed and time it to a runners aspect of wherever you wanted to be.

you could get basic maps or buy upgrades like "run the great wall of china" or "the pyramids"

neat idea! although some DVDs were made for this purpose but that ain't the real thing :)

theres alot of cool effects you could add in to make it neat like...

attack dogs at certain locations
inclement weather
zombie hordes

you could tie in social aspects as well

not quite the same thing but thats the premise basically.

I think the meat of it would be that you go in real time so you feel like you accomplished something.

Would take a hell of a lot of technology but seems like a really cool idea. If I had a treadmill I'd buy it. I like the add-on ideas too.

That what I do with my home bike trainer Tacx Fortius, I have dvds and I can bike everywhere like spain italy germany arizona...

i think they already have things like this for thirty or so years. i remember seeing it for the bicycles anyways.

Already been done. Even have them so they change the incline to match the terrain you are watching.

Jillian Michaels just launched one of these. We have them at our gym. Kind of neat, you actually "go" somewhere, with incline changes, etc.

my 2 year old has a game from fisherprice...its a stationary bike attached to the tv.

he pedals the bike and steers to collect letters on the screen

i like the zombie twist...however i think a single screen limits what is possible

crap they did.. kinda.. i think it could be done better but thats the basic idea. i would like to see it hooked to big screens though and more dynamic

Yup, those are them. They port them out to big screen TV's in front of the machines, or you can just watch regular cable. I do MMA there mostly, so I never really go on the gym side except to squat.

already done, you have it for bikes. A friend of my has a setup where he goes "biking" the tour de france. When you go uphill the bike reacts.

LOL my kids have the smartcycle also. I don't know how they play that thing though, looks rather boring to me.
