Genesis vs Thesis vs PageLines or...?
I'm looking to get something to use as the backbone for all future sites I build with WP.
I want a framework that is relatively simple. I can dabble in the files, but I don't like to spend hours trying to figure out what bit of php does what. That said, I don't need something that is purely drag and drop and likely limiting. If you are using a framework, what product are you using? What are the pros and cons of it? |
I like Platform Pro from Pagelines. I bought the Developer account and it was $400 well spent.
Now I get to convince clients to let me update/migrate their site...for a small fee of course. :1orglaugh |
Ive been dabble in Thesis. Im just starting to get the hang of it and like it a lot.

Bones and Roots all the way. HTML5 compatible and responsive layouts. Also LESS is the new CSS.

I like genesis of those three you mentioned...
|
for beginners genesis is probably the best route if you want to do your own child themes, the others for actually using it, are good, but if you want to do any custom code and you arent very well versed in wordpress it might be tough, plus genesis has some nice custom child themes.
if you want a framework that is free, bones and roots are good, i have been using bolts lately. https://github.com/aliso/bolts |
http://www.wpmayor.com/polls/whats-y...eme-framework/ has some good ones.

http://www.rootstheme.com/ Both built on HTML5 boilerplate, which should be an essential part of any site these days. It's 2012, time to fast forward the web in the most efficient way possible. Bare in mind these are only frameworks and not fully built themes, they provide an amazing springboard. @Fris, thanks for the bolts suggestion, will check that out too. |

The two things that are important to me are excellent docs/support and non bloated code. |

The interface itself looked easy to use, though, as with all things, it takes time to learn a system. The thing that I didn't like was after the reviewer had added a bunch of features, etc, then viewed the page source. Each instance seemed to be making a new style sheet, and all that crap was in the header. Granted, this may have been a review of an older version, I don't know. Do you know if they have cleaned up the code any? |
