Updating Wordpress
 

To the blog owners, how often you update your wordpress? I think its bad.. iupdated mine and the pics all disappeared

I don't update a lot of mine...the ones that are doing very good I try to update maybe twice a month or so, but the others I just let sit since they're getting decent SE traffic anyways.

Once every 5 years or so.

You must update or present a huge security risk. That being said, only upgrade two levels at a time or you will definitely break something.

arent you guys afraid it could mess up all your blogs?

when ever installatron messages me to. i got fucked getting behind on my installs once. never again.

Any time I have its fucked something up. Usualy something that relies on cron jobs.

unless your themes and/or backends are completely out of whack with the default setup, or based on a very oldv ersion, it shouldnt break much, if anything. WP is crazy with how much they don't depreciate functions and variables.

update as often as you can stand. if it breaks something, fix it and keep it moving

I've never had a problem updating.

most of the updates are to do with users, but you should read each update, it will tell you what the bugs were, if they are to do with admin account issues, its usally fine unless you give out admin access to other people.

mine i only allow subscribers to join, and even that if they try to goto wp-admin it just redirects them back to the main site.

Oh shit whoops lol I thought you meant updating with blog posts..I update all my wordpress installs immediately.

probably you used some plugin or custom function or field. If you used a regular WP, then that won't happen. If you used a plugin, check if you have the latest upgrade for that plugin. Also, try using the default theme and if the pics are there, then your theme is broken

I'm update all of my blogs every time that there's an update available. I have never had any issues.

I update it whenever I login and see there is new version available..
never had any issues with updates...

It should not have to be said, but when you update your blogs, update your plugins too. If you installed some you are not using, delete them. If you created a db you are not using, delete it.
