Buffalo Terastation - 17 of them by now in various sizes
|
right now prices suck btw, the flood in Thailand made harddrives really expensive

if you just want to store docs you can get an external HD and burn a copy to DVDs |
If I wasn't a serious geek who built a storage cloud from scratch, I'd use the Western Digital World Edition. Out of the box, it's solid. Your favorite geek can customize it if needed because under the hood it's a Linux server.
That or use webserver old hardware you have laying around and install FreeNAS or similar. A comparison of open NAS solutions, all of which are more feature rich and customizable than are affordable NAS hardware: http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/reports/7153/1 |
I've been very happy with
http://www.amazon.com/Hotswapped-Dua...0317373&sr=8-1 There's a rackmount version also if needed. |
readynas nv+ (4x2tb drives) not a high-end NAS but cheap & been faultless for a year.

Qnap . .
|
I picked up a Qnap 4 bay nas box about 3 months ago as well. So far so good. Hot swappable and pretty easy to set up.
Has anyone used http://www.freenas.org/ in a setup? Just curious. |

QNAP or Synology.

I'm using a few QNAP's here, so far pretty good

I have a ReadyNas +, but I'm very disappointed with the speed. I'm going to find a USB3 solution soon.
