Do you own a Rolex?

How many of you here are big watch fans? How about Rolex fans? I was looking at the GMT II the other day. Too bad I can't afford it but shit I wish I could because I'd be wearing that or the submariner if I had the dough...

Konda 02-29-2012 10:24 PM

I bought one as soon as I started to make good money online. Still have it now 10+ years later. Never bought another watch, even though there are much nicer models than the one I have, but back then I didn't care much, just wanted to have a Rolex lol

BSleazy 02-29-2012 10:28 PM

Bought one back in the day. Sold it.

AllAboutCams 02-29-2012 10:30 PM

i have a fake one

Jakez 02-29-2012 10:32 PM

Plenty of better, nicer looking watches that are much cheaper. So I see/hear. Not a watch person at all, I just pull out my phone and check the time. But watches are more of an appearance thing anyhow.

Agreed, there's a ton of better built automatic/mechanical watches out there. Not a big fan of Rolex.

Lint 02-29-2012 10:48 PM

rolex is a watch for the nouveau riche.

Yngwie 02-29-2012 10:59 PM

I wear a sundial around my wrist.

Spunky 02-29-2012 11:02 PM

I think it's a huge waste of money for just telling time, always thought they were way over rated

fuzebox 02-29-2012 11:03 PM

Would never buy a Rolex. Once you start looking at nice watches and you see what options are out there, you won't bother with a Submariner.

Matt 26z 02-29-2012 11:07 PM

Get a nice quality replica and add a genuine Rolex band to it. Much cheaper and nobody is going to know any better.

Mr Pheer 02-29-2012 11:13 PM

I dont like "blingy" watches. Gold and/or diamonds look horrible on a watch in my opinion. Not all Rolex are like that, but seems like most are.

Breitling Skyracer, black bezel, black dial, steel band is more my style :)

SomeCreep 02-29-2012 11:13 PM

Nah, it'd just get scratched.

beks001 02-29-2012 11:34 PM

What would be in the cheaper range that is automatic and looks nice and quality as well? Something silver and basic similar to the submariner in basic-ness I mean. Notthing to fancy. What about Cartier? Anything in the 1-3k range that won't lose it's value likely?

Sin_Vraal 02-29-2012 11:41 PM

a lot of rolex haters.

Dont let them lie to u,

#1 unless you are wearing a digital on your wrist, the cell phone in your pocket will carry much better time.

#2 Rolex still tell pretty good time

#3 they look great. The reason question is how many people who are hating on the rolex can actually afford a few.:2 cents:

#4 rolex hold their value, not many other watches can really say that, so while you might get a nice wristwatch for 2-5k , it wont be worth anything in a few years.

There ARE lots of other nice watches out there. I Also like breitlings, not a bad watch, plenty of snazzy cheaper watches but none will hold their value like a rolex will.

Actually not the case. My humble (amongst other Rolex) Air King 14010 black has had more than a few scratches and scrapes in the 10 years I have had it, and the face is still as clean and clear as the day I got it.

kane 02-29-2012 11:45 PM

I don't have any watch at all. It bothers me to wear one.

Still, if I were to get a watch I would never spend that kind of money on a watch. There are much better things I could do with that money.

Tag Heuer makes some nice ones in the 3k range, the Aquaracer Automatic and Carrera are both pretty sharp.

pretty much all the designer watches will lose their value almost immediately in the way a car does when you drive it off the lot.

spend 5k, go to ebay find a reputable deal, visit them pick up a used rolex or breitling.

both fine watches. both will be worth 5k 10 years from now

i collect watches, so i don't buy watches for their resale value. don't buy an expensive watch if you can not afford it - it's a horrible investment.

patek phillipe holds their value better than a rolex. that's my personal experience.

also, you can get watches for 1-5k that will increase substantially in value.

breitling depreciate FAST, so i doubt it.

watches are not an investment, so stop thinking of it as an investment.

Got one of these when I graduated university. I like it, it's classic.

asdasd 03-01-2012 02:25 AM

CurrentlySober 03-01-2012 02:28 AM

I personally would not want to wear an expensive watch, because f the connotations to male pornstars and swingers that exist in my mind....

not a fan of Rolex ...

SimonScans 03-01-2012 03:00 AM

Rolexs aren't for telling the time. Nor are they for impressing other watch buffs. They are for impressing check in chicks at hotels and airports, none of whom would know the difference between an IWC and a Timex. As a non gay bloke the options for looking rich (regardless of if you are or not) while wearing jeans are limited. About the ONLY message you can send is your watch. If you want that upgrade the Rolex is instantly recognisable and offsets the scruffy jeans perfectly.

Fake or real doesn't matter, both work just as well. Just remember you are trying to look believably wealthy and kinda sensible - A fake diamond studded gold presidential isn't fooling anyone, a stainless model might just work.

I got my Rolex for my 40th birthday, I have no idea what it's value is now, but todays new price is roughly three times what mine cost, so I'm happy.

100% agree - women really do notice this type of thing.

djroof 03-01-2012 05:17 AM

not watch fan.... I own an ORIENT watch

Romario VIP 03-01-2012 05:19 AM

I don't like Rolex, too many fake ones around...
I own a Jaeger Lecoultre instead !

BIGTYMER 03-01-2012 05:29 AM

Yes, I have a Rolex.

The Rolex app for my iPhone. For watches I wear a tag.

Sharky 03-01-2012 05:33 AM

I bought a $9k Rolex as soon as I started making money. I loved it, it wasn't flashy but a good watch. It was the last thing I sold during my divorce about 6 years ago. Good thing I had it though, its resale value helped out when I needed it.

Now I have a watch that cost 5% of what the rolex did, and I get more compliments on it than I ever did the rolex! lol

L-Pink 03-01-2012 05:54 AM

Gold submarinier, worn it everyday for 20 years.

Zoxxa 03-01-2012 05:57 AM

I am a Movado fan, bought this: http://www.corporatesnobs.com/faceto...let-watch.html
I rarely wear it. I'll give it to my son some day or something.

Rolex, Jaeger Lecoultre, and Patek Philippe are the only watches you can count on to hold their value.
I have a diamond president, a gmt master, and an anniversary sub.

My wife got me a Rolex in 2006 when my first son was born. Love it and I am sure it will be passed on to him someday.

The rolex needs to be worn all the time to have the correct time. Even then they suck at telling time.

They maybe hold their value but you are buying retail and selling wholesale so you are going to take a 30-50% shave.

Like the guy above, I bougth one when porn was so easy and now I wish I had the cash. I wear it about twice a year.

Who needs a watch when you have a smartphone???

Nowadays a watch is an accessory for men to flaunt some bling.

She gets the size of a house, wears sweat pants for nine months, then pushes a bowling ball out of her bits and you get the Rolex? :thumbsup

johnnyloadproductions 03-01-2012 07:10 AM

Instead of having the Rolex just put that premium on top of a nice car to show off.

arock10 03-01-2012 07:10 AM

I only wear expensive rubber watches
