IMC President Kuppens Launches Antipiracy Union ACIUF
 

Siep R. Kuppens, President of the International Media Company, producers of numerous adult paysites, including ClubSeventeen.com and TeenLiveSex.com, is putting out a call to arms to all adult content producers who have been hijacked by online pirates and to those who wish to take preemptive measures to protect their intellectual property.

As a businessman who?s seen his own sites hacked and his company dwindle from 60 employees to 25, Kuppens knows firsthand the damage digital copyright infringement can cause and has a difficult time hiding his?let?s call it enthusiasm?for ?killing? pirates.

?When I first started at IMC, I was sort of flabbergasted by the dejection of some people in this industry,? Kuppens told XBIZ. ?Discussions, both within IMC and external, about piracy, illegal file-sharing and free tubes resulted in remarks like ?it is here and you better learn to live with it.? If I suggested putting up a fight, they looked at me like I was some sort of a Don Quixote.?

Kuppens soon found his Sancho Panza in ClassMedia.com head Marcel. Together they?ve launched the Adult Content Industry United Foundation (ACIUF), a union of adult industry professionals willing to put their money and knowledge where their mouths are to combat pirates in court and terminate illegal hosting from cyberlockers and other delinquent downloaders.

The group has a battle cry: ?Unite and put up a fight.? They have allied themselves with FileSharingCrime.org and consult with payment providers and government tax and justice departments with the goal of acquiring infringing URLS, which they then use to shut down illegal hosting sites.

?We build a program which allows us to analyze a pirate,? Kuppens explained. ?With this, we can see where they take the content, say to at least 60 smaller pirate sites. Kill the big ones and the little ones go as well. For example, if we prove that file hosting companies have stolen content, we can take proper action. The hosting company will have no other option than to block the site. If they pop up somewhere else, we will repeat the action. One by one we will go after them.?

But, don?t call them illegal content removers. The ACIUF?s mission, according to Kuppens, is to legally remove major piracy players from the web; not just the property they steal. While Kuppens acknowledges the aid illegal content removing services provide, he?s suspicious of their commitment to the overall cause, citing that such companies rely on piracy to stay in business.

?Most of them do a good job, but removing content is a gag,? Kuppens said. ?You take it away and within no time it is back again. The thieves laugh in our faces. Content removers have a huge knowledge base, and it looks like they are not using it. Give us the information and we will kill some pirates like they are mayflies.?

In addition to hunting down pirates, the organization also offers adult companies antipiracy support through a variety of track-and-trace methods such as encoding tips and IP-block tools.

The ACIUF does require membership fees to fund its hired staff, equipment, location and, of course, legal battles. ?I know the money will be an issue,? Kuppens said. ?Some people will make it look like we are in this for the money. Well, nothing could be further from the truth. We are just some guys that want to make a stand, we want our business back.?

Sooner or later content producers will unite. May not happen now but its inevitable, it has happened with almost every other industry and with new laws like ACTA and SOPA just around the corner it will not be such a futile fight any more. Times are changing and pirate profits will be taking a massive hit real soon.

MPAA of porn is an excellent idea, and the one that is long overdue. I hope that this venture is not going to be shortlived as many others in this biz, good luck mr. Kuppens, you have full our support on this.

I spent almost 14 years working as a pirate. Had 6 shops, 18 workers...

Why is this relevant?

1 little law passed in '99 in just one day in my shit hole country lead to the complete destruction of the pirate scene. What I speak of is factual reality, not some "theory".

Now I am not counting on ACTA/SOPA/PIPA or whatever, nor am I saying that porn profits will return to the golden days..... BUT if you think this pirate "file sharing" paradise will last then it is you that believes in pink bunnies and golden eggs....

The laws would need to be wider than just the infringing sites. Advertisers, payment processors, etc. Need to be hit. do that the problem shrinks. follow the money.

Advertisers and payment processors might pick up business elsewhere, so shouldn't be something they oppose.

I saw a forum recently that had pirated porn. Domain Whois hidden. No advertising. Payment processing was done in Russia, so ultimately it has to include VISA and MC in who can be held responsible. So it doesn't just all move to Russia.

So lets say ABC company's owner does hire to you modify their tour so that it as you say can, "convert piracy traffic."

Then let's say I happen to be an affiliate of ABC company.

So I send 1 hit.

I haven't benefited in any way shape or form unless that hit turns into a join which I get paid for. You had nothing to do with my sending that hit.

Now, let's say that hit actually does convert into a join which I get paid for. There is no way of knowing that this join occurred because of the changes you made. You modified the site to covert piracy traffic. I don't send piracy traffic so your changes may have had zero effect on whether or not my hit converted.

Now, let's assume that that my hit converted into a join because of the changes you made so I actually did benefit from your work. Who cares? You did what you were paid to do which is to modify the tour. You shouldn't care if I benefit from it for free. As a matter of fact you should be 100% fine with that. It wasn't too long ago that you created a thread explaining how if you can't compete with free then you really can't compete at all. So you should have no problems with me getting the benefits of your labor for free.

Still, if I were to give you my info how would you blacklist me? Would you ban all the domains I own from ever sending hits to any site you work on. Do you think the owner of ABC Company is going to be happy about that? He hired you to modify a tour, not to blacklist his affiliates from sending him traffic.

By saying I don't want to work with you and won't be using or paying for your services does not equate to me saying you can blacklist me.
