Depends what you want from it I guess.

I use imdb a lot to look things up, never once needed to upgrade to pro to get the info I required.

i use the standard all the time never needed to sign up

Pro is helpful if you are doing business or want to do business with the people you are checking up on.

It's a great way to stay in touch with great directors such as Chris Mallick, whom has directed the non-award winning Middlemen.

IMDB Pro ise useful if you are in the mainstream movie business (actor, producer, technical, etc). If you're not it has no use.

I agree with this.

I have an account, but I like to think that I'm in the movie making business.

I can't see how it would be useful to anyone else.

It's very useful for us. It all depends on what you would use it for as many have commented.

With that qualifier, then yes, it's very useful.
