EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (CBS) ? Federal agents are investigating after an East Chicago, Ind., boy brought phony $100 bills to school.
As WBBM Newsradio?s Mike Krauser reports, the Northwest Indiana Times says a first-grader at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, at 2001 E. 135th St. in East Chicago, had brought the counterfeit bills to school and was passing them out to classmates.
One student told school administrators the 6-year-old boy had a bag full of the fake bills in a closet at home, the Times reported.
The boy told school officials he got the bills from his grandmother, the newspaper reported.
The school confiscated six of the bogus bills, which were printed out with various serial numbers, school officials told the Times.
The U.S. Secret Service has also been notified, and is investigating, the newspaper reported.
