should we getr rid of the min wage?

I belive you have it in the usa and for 10 years or so we have it in the uk.

but should it be droped?

many firms have said they would employ people but simply cannot afford the min wage.

it does not seem to have made people better off. if anything worse of as the price of food went up, so people found everything more expencive.

surly people should have the right to work for whatewver they wish. I may go work for firm 'A' for $1 an hour becase they are giving me training that I know will mean in a few months a large wage increase.

Also if I go to firm 'A' and they pay me $1 an hour, firm 'B' may pay $10 an hour and becase I know have experience they take me on.

Surly it should be left to the market force what people are payed?

in the uk people refuse to work now as they find the min wage degrading?????

The minimum wage in the states is based off cost of living and is adjusted accordingly when prices overall go up. I know AZ just had a 30 cent minimum wage increase, and it's up something like 2-3 dollars from 10 years ago when I was 16.

Getting rid of it would cripple the economy. There are so many people making just minimum wage and barely getting by, if employers could pay less - they absolutely would to increase profits.

indeed

but you would not work for them unless you found it was what you wanted.

think this way.

i deside to set up a business. i need 10 staff but also need the work.

I take on tewn friends who agree to work for $1 a week untill we get the contracts. we work hard, pull in the business.

now i can afford to pay them $800 a week.

how would you be paid then?

Exactly - employer's want everything for nothing and would sooner burn through people to get the job done. Greed from the top.

I think we should keep it. This prevents people at the bottom of the food chain from getting abused.

Look at the crap employees most fast food restaurants have these days. Now imagine they were going to pay them one third as much. LOL - You think what we have now is the bottom of the barrel? Just wait until we don't have minimum wage and these people are working for a lot less.
