$101.2M Worldwide: But ?John Carter?s $30.6M Weak Domestic Weekend Lags #1 ?The Lorax?; Eddie Murphy Bombs Again

PornMD 03-11-2012 05:36 PM

Honestly, either Eddie Murphy's movies have been really bad, or they need to fire the marketing department that does the commercials. They have the same fucking voiceover guy that does all of them and the commercials are always almost completely unfunny. The guy may as well say "Coming this weekend, another shitty Eddie Murphy movie. You know the drill, go see something else. Rated PG-13."

Barefootsies 03-11-2012 05:40 PM

If you pay attention, most of Hollywood use the same two voice guys on trailers.

:2 cents:

It's not so much using the same voice guy as it is using practically the same commercial except the gimmick premise of the movie is different. I know those guys can change their voices up a little bit but the guy speaks exactly the same in all of the Eddie Murphy movie commercials.

Anyways, it seems A Thousand Words was actually SHOT in 2008, so one of those movies that sucked so bad it got shelved. 0 good reviews on RottenTomatoes, lol.

Edit: To put it another way, if you've ever seen the South Park episode where they keep having the Rob Schneider movie commercials, that's exactly what I'm talking about.

Edit: Found it:

The Eddie Murphy movie just looked terrible. . . as has most of his movies in recent years. I never read the John Carter books so I had no frame of reference, but the commercials made it hard to get into. It just looked like a guy who jumped in the air and kicked ass. I have read reviews that say it is decent, but I think they did a pretty shitty job of marketing it.

Sly 03-11-2012 07:16 PM

I don't know how Eddie Murphy keeps getting work. Has he even had a successful movie in the last 10 years?

I don't know the storyline for John Carter, the commercials did look fun but they did not tell me enough to want to see it.

It looks like somewhat of a bite off of Avatar. Some guy goes to some other planet or something and has to save it. I am pretty sure.

Except the John Carter of Mars story was written in 1913. Avatar was made from this story and so was star wars. They've been trying to make a John Carter movie since 1939 :1orglaugh

A $300 million dollar movie, beat by a movie starring Danny DeVito.

John Carter is the type of movie that should do well in foreign markets

it does look good

this year there seems to have been lots and lots of films i have wanted to see.

to be honest for 10 years if not longer there has been nothing i have wanted to see.

they do say in a resseshion films become good.

as for eddy murphy i liked him in that haunted house family film. also the first nutty profeser. also the one were he talks to the animals.

i loved that cartoon/animation thing he did a lot of the voices for. it took me a bit to get into it, but once i got it, i loved it.

brassmonkey 03-11-2012 09:04 PM

Will Smith maybe, but Eddie hasn't pulled that in a movie since the last Nutty Professor (can't believe that was 12 years ago - time flies).

V_RocKs 03-12-2012 12:08 PM

He needs to stick to comedy dramas with action like 48 hours or whatever that movie was...

Jman 03-12-2012 12:11 PM

At least Eddy Murphy didn't get Mallicked

RebelR 03-12-2012 01:33 PM

Ah .. gone are the days of the funny Eddie Murphy, Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places, 48 Hours, and even The Golden Child, as soon as he started on the Kids Movies.. it was all down hill from there.

LeRoy 03-12-2012 01:45 PM

I liked him as the donkey voice in Shrek :)

Oddly, the kids movies were a means to clean up his image after getting caught with that tranny prostitute.

As to John Carter, I think the main thing that has hurt their box-office sells is not revealing too much to those not already familiar with the character. I loved the books, and have been looking forward to seeing the movie after the first teaser trailer came out.
