Atheists use 'Unholy' Water to 'Unbless' Highway
Atheists use 'Unholy' Water to 'Unbless' Highway
Now I've heard it all! Frustrated by the fact that religious leaders blessed a portion of highway in Florida, a group of atheists decided to "unbless" the road. Armed with scrubbers and a large container of "unholy" water, the group sought to wash away the work done by the Polk County organization known as Polk Under Prayer. ... http://www.gopusa.com/theloft/2012/0...bless-highway/ :1orglaugh |
I'll cruse over to Polk co and "unbless" it with some used Heinekens.

Brilliant publicity stunt.

"You can't unbless something that was never blessed. Thus, they are just being ridiculous and disrespectful. If they don't believe in God, so be it. But leave me alone and leave my highways alone as well!"
But a bunch of christians blessing the road with holy water is no problem ofcourse. |
Look at those comments. Fucking idiots.

atheist

By unholy water they mean water. I really don't get religous people. All religion preaches love for your fellow man but they act exact opposite way. here is an interesting note stehpan hawkin was recently quoted saying "god is not neccesary". meaning he believes the universe can come into existence without a supreme being.
|
i applaud them
"Representatives from various atheist groups in the area scrubbed the road at the Pasco-Polk county line. They were figuratively removing holy oil that had been put on the road last year by a group of area religious leaders." the only way to combat religious idiocy is this way. you cant argue with them you must do these types of things, atheist groups know this and it works and gets their point out. |
notice how even the person in that articles says the highways belong to them?
"leave my highways alone" exactly why they did it. the sheep are just too stupid and offended to understand the message sent. its not THEIR highway to bless in the first place, and thats precisely why this event was planned. |
That page, and the commenters are scarier than the threat of satan they preach.. yikes!

why should any of us care about another's faith? |

you have it mixed up, no one is recruiting anyone here. just sending a message and it works, and gets discussions going. |
Militant atheists are just as fucking annoying as the hardcore christian types

it's kinda amusing seeing everyone getting worked up over some dumb publicity stunt... trying to use logic that you can't unbless something, etc.. while completely missing the point of the event... :1orglaugh
people need to lighten up a bit....:2 cents: |
Those comments, those people, are frightening. There are no people in the world more violent and hateful than those who are apart of an organized religion. The irony...

The atheist person said it was about symbolically welcoming EVERYone into the county rather than just christians.
In reply the church person called the atheist message negative, complained about the atheists attacking the christian message, and talked about them wanting to obliterate free speech they dont agree with. One sounds fairly sane, if a little zany. One sounds utterly off the rails with nonsense. |

If they were real atheists, they would see the 'blessing' as a harmless ritual and feel no need to perform an 'unblessing ceremony'.

only in america do non-religious people get evangelical and fanatical about not being religious.
kind of defeats the purpose. might as well believe in a higher power then. will be happier and live longer (according to studies). |

Militant atheists (i love that term Coup) will just throw out insults and shame people into joining their club. Which is extremely backwards and most definitely negative and helps nothing. Quote:

and the fanatics group together to wield power to influence the laws that we all are then forced to live under :2 cents: |
militant atheists are just as fucking annoying as religious nutjobs.
you can tell they still haven't overcome their initial religious programming. just swapped out one fanaticism for another. if you don't believe in god, why still focus on it? |
Here are the only quotes from the parties themselves. The rest of the article is opinion, so I'll leave it at this and just say that neither party should have been concerned one iota about what the other did. If the atheists did their thing first, I also wouldnt have cared.

the atheists have so won in this. Some "idiots" as you guys say, spread water around on a road to poke fun at religion and its got the entire internet discussing religion. get over it.
WIN! |

I admit that religions have been used in this way. As a way to justify certain actions, as a way to get people to join in and commit crimes, as a way to silence opposition,... But just like wet sidewalks don't cause rain, it would be a logical fallacy to automatically conclude that religions cause harm. We see the same kind of behavior that we despise/fear in certain religious groups in other groups like environmentalists, scientific utopians, statists of all varieties,.... Even the so called Rally for Sanity was a good example of sheeplike behavior. Like I said, I'm not religious. I don't believe in God or any gods. But I don't care what my neighbor believes in. If my neighbor wants to worship a piece of toast because he thinks he can see the face of Jehova in it if he holds it under a blacklight that's fine by me. If my other neighbor wants to dress in pink every day because that's part of his religion, that's fine by me. If the lady across the street wants to spend all her time reading a 2000 year old book over and over again, that's fine by me. Their body, their property, their decision. As long as they don't cause damage to me or my property, I don't care what they do. I believe that's called tolerance. |
LOL good one. Stupidity and creativity is a good source for a few laughs.
|
What is amusing is that technically, when you add any water to blessed water, it too becomes holy. You can not dilute it. So if anything, they reconsecrated it.
