Awesome video, is it really fake?

John-ACWM 03-21-2012 11:13 AM

Simply beautiful!

mavruda 03-21-2012 11:16 AM

Hmmm... somehow I don't believe that real human can produce enough power with bare hands and lift himself off - we've seen enough old movies where the first pioneers in flying have done something similar even with bigger wings. Ask NASA guys who owes tube sites around if this can be possible - we all know people can't fly - they only fall with style - delta planners, parachutes - everything is just a cool falling. To fight the gravity you need a huge power to lift your ass out of mother Earth.

Naughty 03-21-2012 12:26 PM

It was on the news here, its fake

Mutt 03-21-2012 12:31 PM

michael.kickass 03-21-2012 03:12 PM

Amazing!

Dirty F 03-21-2012 03:18 PM

How did they fake it?

Konda 03-21-2012 07:01 PM

It's so obvious that is fake, I can not believe that Gizmodo, Techcrunch as well as Wired all 3 reported about it and said it could be real...

I first suspected they would be in of the hoax somehow, but they have now added new articles in which they say it's most likely a hoax though.

According to Rick Santorum, this is the way we euthanise people. We let old people fly too close to the sun.

CGI Experts Say Flying Bird Man Is Fake

ADG

Coup 03-22-2012 02:23 AM

That shit is obvious CGI. How the fuck is anyone falling for that? lol

ufscripter 03-22-2012 03:56 AM

fake or not it is still cool :)

Emil 03-22-2012 03:59 AM

what is wrong with some of you? Of course it's fake.

Dido 03-22-2012 05:46 AM

I saw a lot of people flying by today, since the trains aren't going properly.

What on earth makes you even doubt it? It's on the internets people!!11!ONE

TheSquealer 03-22-2012 07:47 AM

Haha.. I posted the video because I thought the video itself is clever and very well done. The animation/mechanics of the wings etc. Obviously it can't be real to anyone who understands anything about the physics of flight. Seems pretty obvious as well that a human can't "flap" like that for any period of time with any real resistance or weight. The helmet cam was a nice touch.

It looks real though and the video is really well done.

CaptainHowdy 03-22-2012 07:54 AM

The dutch are ... bored.

2MuchMark 03-22-2012 08:12 AM

Lol - Everyone screaming CG sound like a bunch of crybabies.

Check out the analyisis of the video above by WIRED magazine:

http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/20...man-birdwings/

They look at real physics of flight, and analysis of the video's and more. Great article and according to them, nothing in the video indicates that its fake.

it is 100% fake grow a brain stupid. just because an article says it's real doesn't mean shit. matching an outcome with science doesn't take a genius.

that guy has no clue, all he tested is if a tripod was used and a shake effect was added later.
Everything indicates that it's fake.

it is 100% fake, and anyone thinking different should have his brain checked

Yeah just look at the way the guys arms are moving half to 3/4's of the way through the video, if the straps were that loose there's no way he'd be able to get any power at all.

Also the whole thing looks way to flimsy to hold his weight. Not saying it's not possible, but this video is 100% fake.

well, it's supposed to be like that, he wears (wii) sensors around his arms and his movement is send to the machine that flaps the wings.

But yeah, either way it's fake anyway.

Technology Man Who Flew Like a Bird in Viral Video Admits Farce Was Part of Online Experiment

Posted on March 22, 2012 at 6:20pm by Liz Klimas Liz Klimas

A few days ago, we brought you the too-good-to-be-true story of Jarno Smeets who realized his dream of flying like a bird by building his own wings. It was an endeavor that he chronicled in both blog posts and video clips on his website Human Birdwings for eight months.

Shortly after the video of his second test flight of the wings went viral ? it has more than 3 million YouTube hits ? it was called out as a fake by experts in the film industry. There were also questions raised about his identity and resume.

Now Smeets, or shall we say Floris Kaayk, has admitted it was all an elaborate hoax. Wired reports that Kaayk gave a tell-all interview on a Dutch TV show where he said he is really a filmmaker and animator by trade ? not a mechanical engineer as he is described on his blog. He also said that this project was part of an ?experiment about online media.?

Offcourse it is real, we already practicing since the 70s.
There was even a TV show, Vlieg er eens uit - Te land ter zee en in de lucht.
People try to fly with self made wings for years here.

I was fooled, poor me, and somehow I deserve to be called stupid? Thanks for that.

And yes, read today in popsci that it was fake. It still looked pretty good and sure fooled me.
