What would be the impact of Google's impending OVER OPTIMIZATION PENALTY on keyword domains?

Google recently announced an impending overoptimization penalty. Supposedly, this algo change is all about giving "quality" content sites a fighting chance against sites with lower quality content but have great SEO value.

According to http://www.practicalecommerce.com/ar...zation-Penalty we don't know exactly what "overoptimization" means but here's some suspected changes:
* Linking to a page from that same page with optimized anchor text. If the page is www.jillsfakesite.com/flannel-shirts, and in the body copy of that page I link the words ?flannel shirts? to the same page the words are on, IE www.jillsfakesite.com/flannel-shirts, that should count as over-optimization.
* Linking repeatedly from body copy to a handful of key pages with optimized anchor text. If 33 of my 100 pages link to www.jillsfakesite.com from the body copy with the anchor text ?Jills Fake Site,? that should count as over-optimization.
* Changing the ?Home? anchor text to your most valuable keyword. Usually the home link is the site?s logo. But in the cases where the home link is textual and has been optimized with the juiciest keyword, that should count as over-optimization.
* Overly consistent and highly optimized anchor text on backlinks. If 10 of the 100 links to a page contain the same highly optimized anchor text, such as ?Jill?s Fake Site, the Fakest Site Selling Flannel Shirts on the Web,? that should count as over-optimization.
* Generic keyword domain name. They have way too much impact on rankings, and need to be demoted in importance. Now I?m sure it?s difficult to determine which words are generic and which are brands. But Google seems to have cracked that nut at least partially with its related brands results. Surely they must be close to understanding the difference between the non-branded domain littleblackdress.com and the brand whitehouseblackmarket.com.
Now, the last part is troubling since many webmasters here buy aged keyword domains to get an edge. What impact do you think the coming algo changes would bring?

OVER OPTIMIZATION means being retarded with your links. Back linking to your own page or pages, linking to irrelevant pages, etc. Google is getting smarter.

Make a site that someone would actually surf. Make something RELEVANT to what the got there for. WIN.

This isn't hard boys. Your black hat days are over. You might be able to trick them for a bit, but why? Make a site they want to see, optimize it exactly according to what you are offering and bingo.

OVER OPTIMIZATION has always been penalized. don't know why any seo is just realizing this just because matt cutts farted.

Moving towards only wanting contextual links from relevant sites to authority sites on the topic. It seems.

That's definitely one (high value) way to go about it.

* Linking to a page from that same page with optimized anchor text. If the page is www.jillsfakesite.com/flannel-shirts, and in the body copy of that page I link the words “flannel shirts” to the same page the words are on, IE www.jillsfakesite.com/flannel-shirts, that should count as over-optimization.

-Now this is weird,so if i have section "movies" and i link to it with keyword "movies" will be bad.That doesn't have sense.

* Linking repeatedly from body copy to a handful of key pages with optimized anchor text. If 33 of my 100 pages link to www.jillsfakesite.com from the body copy with the anchor text “Jills Fake Site,” that should count as over-optimization.

-Is that where you have on main page repeat same word like "pics" 100 times

* Changing the “Home” anchor text to your most valuable keyword. Usually the home link is the site’s logo. But in the cases where the home link is textual and has been optimized with the juiciest keyword, that should count as over-optimization.

-Having a h1 text with title of site it's no longer good idea?

* Overly consistent and highly optimized anchor text on backlinks. If 10 of the 100 links to a page contain the same highly optimized anchor text, such as “Jill’s Fake Site, the Fakest Site Selling Flannel Shirts on the Web,” that should count as over-optimization.

-Does that means,if i have 100 backlinks and 99 of them have same keyword like "porn",that could be problem?

* Generic keyword domain name. They have way too much impact on rankings, and need to be demoted in importance. Now I’m sure it’s difficult to determine which words are generic and which are brands. But Google seems to have cracked that nut at least partially with its related brands results. Surely they must be close to understanding the difference between the non-branded domain littleblackdress.com and the brand whitehouseblackmarket.com.

-Well,seems those who grabbing se traffic by buying tons of keywords domains will be fucked

I've gone strictly organic - meaning, no attempts at link trading, no SEO games, just the basics.

Over optimization is what always been bad optimization: things that look unnatural.

Having 1000s of "dofollow" links and no "nofollow" links: unnatural.
Having a bunch of links from .gov domains to your penis pill site: unnatural.
Having 1000s of links, but no one ever mentions your site on twitter: unnatural.
Having 100000 links from forum profiles while the other sites in the top 10 for your kw have maybe 200 links in total each: unnatural.
etc.

Brujah 03-22-2012 01:39 PM

Fuck Google, Altavista is where you want to be optimizing.

one think i do know google is pulling out all the stops to make seo as hard as possible in order to force people to use adwords to sell anything.

What I think Google does these days:

Announce an upcoming algo change that will only affect 1% of searches or whatever;
Introduce it along with a ton of other algo changes that affect the other 99% of searches that they didn't mention;
Now all the webmasters that lost out think it was because of the announced change, when it was something else they did that cause the problem.
