Gf wants to be a Shooter... help?

Hey all, my girlfriend is interested in learning how to shoot adult video. She is mainly interested in the amateur/homemade niche and will be starting out with a 1080p flip video camera and two soft boxes as her only equipment.

Any good free online guides, videos etc to teach her the basics? Doesn't have to be adult per se but obviously that would be more relevant. Just like how to do lighting, methods to steady the camera, angles, etc etc... shit like that....

Thanks!

If she is doing amateur/homemade, lose the softboxes and just use natural light.

agreed, amateur should look amateur.

If she needs a guy for some POV stuff, send her my way :winkwink:

True, but sometimes they are useful for interior rooms that tend to be dark or give off weird colors.

She won't need any guys... :winkwink:

Based on "1080p flip video camera" and "methods to steady the camera" I figured you were joking.

I'm not about to give anybody any advice on content production these days. Too many of you fuckers out there fucking up the product value for those of us who make a living with it.

Well, I haven't been able to find any good quick guide, either really fucking long and in depth or so skimp its useless for her. I suppose I will have to teach her myself blah.

lol the words content shooter and 1080 flip shouldn't even be in the same sentence.

Great choice for her , but for that kind of shooters , just buy a good camera , right? :winkwink:

Tell her she should think about a less expensive hobby. Perhaps crack cocaine or diamond collecting?

As far as the lighting goes, a good place to start is to make sure the room has enough light that the camera can "see" things. The more difficult you make it on the camera, the crapier the product looks. Beyond that, buy a few books, look online, take a few workshops..... have her do the same shit the rest of us had to do to become skilled at it. It's not something you learn in a day or two. Have her watch a lot of porn and pay attention to the creation of the product instead of the people (lighting, coloring, positioning, camera steadiness, etc, etc, etc). When you are shooting movies, you don't get to really watch the action, rather you are making sure the action is something that everyone else will want to watch and therefore you have to be skilled enough to make it look good.d

If someone doesn't feel like investing time in some "really fucking long" to learn a skill they hope to make a living from, it's probably not for them in the first place.

You used to shoot. Why not let her use your equipment and teach her? Or were you using a flip cam and two soft boxes?

She can tape the flip cam to her head and shoot female POV content.

Homegrown Video has a blog to help amateurs

I do a blog, Homegrown Submittals, that might have some helpful information for her. Don't pay attention to all the folks trying to discourage her.

Regarding the camera... I always tell this anecdote:

I was talking with John "Buttman" Stagliano about good hi-end prosumer cameras back in the day and saying how I had the same Sony as him... trying to be cool... then he tells me "The Sony is good but I made my first million with a Canon L1". (single chip hi-8, old school).

I realized his genius then and there. It is not about the camera but about the action when it comes to shooting amateur.

Good luck and Homegrown will be here if she wants to sell some scenes.
