Not sure if I am going to make it until Monday....

Well, I probably will but I feel like death.

Stopped taking my meds (Venlafaxine) for the first time in about 15 years.

I can not even start to explain how I feel. 'Fucked' is the only word I can think of that sums it up.

I can't stand up, sit down or lay on the bed - that dosnt leave a lot of options......

Been on a massive dose all that time - they said do not do it this way because of the withdrawl effects - but if there were any here I would have to take them to stop feeling like this. It would be like coming off Heroin and knowing there is some in the next room. :Oh crap

You may want to ignore my posts for the next few days. lol. No change at all then!!

Just going to find a table to hide under now - Might be back later.....

EddyTheDog 03-31-2012 04:12 PM

Just found this:

Quote:

Venlafaxine

Sudden discontinuation of venlafaxine (brand name Effexor) has a high risk of causing potentially severe withdrawal symptoms. Even missing a single dose can cause symptoms of withdrawal.[27][28] The high risk of withdrawal symptoms reflects venlafaxine's short half-life as well as its effect as a dual uptake inhibitor.[22] Discontinuations have a tendency to be significantly stronger than the withdrawal effects of other antidepressants including the tricyclic antidepressants, but are similar in nature to those of SSRIs with a short half-life such as paroxetine.

Symptoms of discontinuation are similar to other antidepressants including irritability, restlessness, headache, nausea, fatigue, excessive sweating, dysphoria, tremor, vertigo, irregularities in blood pressure, dizziness, visual and auditory hallucinations, feelings of abdominal distension, and paresthesia. Other non-specific mental symptoms may include impaired concentration, bizarre dreams, delirium, cataplexy, agitation, hostility, and worsening of depressive symptoms. Online help groups consistently mention withdrawal from venlafaxine as triggering dreams of a particularly distressing and hellish quality.[22][27][28][29][30][31][32]

Electric shock sensations have also been reported[28][31] with many patients describing the symptoms as "brain zaps". It has been suggested the sensations may represent an alteration of neuronal activity in the central nervous system.[33]

Studies by Wyeth-Ayerst, the maker of venlafaxine, and others have reported severe withdrawal cases, including withdrawal as the presentation of a stroke, as well as neonatal withdrawal (neonatal withdrawal has also been reported with paroxetine, fluoxetine, sertraline, and citalopram). In some venlafaxine withdrawal cases, successful discontinuation was eventually achieved by the addition of fluoxetine, which was later discontinued itself without difficulty. Additionally, use of tramadol has been proven effective as anti-depressant withdrawal aid especially with venlafaxine.
The 'Brain Zaps' are the strangest thing I have ever felt....

beerptrol 03-31-2012 04:16 PM

wouldn't it be better to have your doctor give you lower doses over time so you could ease yourself off them?

L-Pink 03-31-2012 04:21 PM

SERIOUSLY you should never stop taking drugs like that without consulting your Dr. first. SERIOUSLY!

Have you tried going on a differing diet and exercising daily? A nice workout is a great mood lifter. Also, cutting out meat and heavy fat might elevate your mood as well.

DWB 03-31-2012 05:04 PM

Don't stop that shit cold turkey man. You're body is freaking out.

Go see your doctor and hope he's just not a pill pusher.

asdasd 03-31-2012 05:54 PM

I would suggest you find a nice corner to sip water and analyze your breathing. You have nothing more under your control than the body you inhabit.

wehateporn 03-31-2012 06:16 PM

Big Pharma design this shit to make it difficult to come off, as if you can come off it easily they lose profits. It's going to be tough, but time will heal this

porno jew 03-31-2012 06:23 PM

quiet. doesn't look good.

AllAboutCams 03-31-2012 06:25 PM

raymor 03-31-2012 08:41 PM

That's some serious shit. The good news is you never have to do this again. Once you're through it, it's over.

Please stay in touch with some friends or family. You will need sime support, I'm sure. If you have noone to call, call me when you're going crazy. I don't want to see you get through the worst of it only to slide back and have to go through this again. So please use whatver resources you can, talk to some people, so you can be done with this forever.

epitome 03-31-2012 09:09 PM

You can't suddenly stop it. Took me months. Do half your dose every other day and when you can handle it, every 3 days, etc.

Well you can suddenly stop it, but it's dumb to do.

Kiopa_Matt 03-31-2012 09:10 PM

I really hope you consulted a doctor before going cold turkey after 15 years of meds.

That could have some long-term implications.

shit there's no cure for that :Oh crap

Mutt 03-31-2012 10:19 PM

you should never stop taking that type of medication cold turkey.

i tried doing that with alprazolam/xanax 20 years ago - my father found me beginning to have a seizure in the basement. doctor never told me shit about getting off the drug.

you're supposed to taper off psych drugs.

go take your medication, you'll feel better quickly - then find out how to taper off the medication the right way.

oppoten 03-31-2012 10:30 PM

Agree with the people talking sense on here. It's really not a good idea to just stop.

Whenever I've tried that, I've always been back on the meds after about a week or so. Consult your doctor.

Jakez 03-31-2012 11:54 PM

Ditto what everyone else is saying, never cold turkey something no matter how bad it is. Actually the worse it is to take probably makes it even more worse of a thing to quit cold turkey..

My grandpa smoked cigarettes all his life and then quit cold turkey when my mom was a teenager and he found out she was smoking them, he died shortly after from lung cancer. Not saying the cold turkey thing was the immediate cause but hmm..
