It's amazing how overly honest some people are. I would have just kept the money and shut my mouth.

It's also pathetic how greedy law enforcement is.

"Even though I desperately needed the money as my husband and I have five children, I feel I did the right thing by calling the Moorhead Police," Knutson said in the lawsuit.

You can't fix stupid.

Constant Phil 04-05-2012 08:02 AM

I would have kept that and never came back to that place again.

AllAboutCams 04-05-2012 08:03 AM

why tell the pop pop

Adultlexicon 04-05-2012 08:06 AM

Why the fuck have five children if you can't support them.

Unless she saw drug activity or some illegal action. There was no reason to call the police. Its not even doing the right thing when you saw nothing but got a big tip. Little towns are hard up for cash, that money is gone now.

Tom_PM 04-05-2012 08:22 AM

Some people grew up and learned good values, only to get slapped in the face when they act on them. Unfair is a good way to describe it. Stupid is too harsh a word for that IMHO. She just wasn't jaded enough in her life to know that she should never turn over found money to the police. Their duty is to gather evidence. She fucked up, but wouldnt make the same mistake twice (THAT would be stupid, this one was just ignorance with a high price)

That sums it up right there.

Someone gives me $12k and it's covered in cocaine, I'm not saying shit to anyone.

By the time you've licked it all off you'll be talking shit to anyone within a five mile radius.

PR_Glen 04-05-2012 08:59 AM

90 percent of U.S. bills carry traces of cocaine

Makes sense... I've seen parents lick the bill after bangin a fat last bump, wipe it on their shirt and hand it off to their kids.

Darkcrni 04-05-2012 09:11 AM

Well....she can kiss that money goodbye!

Yngwie 04-05-2012 09:22 AM

Funny. She's acting like she "did the right thing" when really she did nothing of the sort. She didn't stop a crime from happening. Ah well, just proves that a good percentage of the population is retarded. She didn't stop a drug deal from happening and stop a kid from getting into the life of "drugs" (I use that world lightly when it comes to marijuana). She got money from what may have been a drug dealer as a tip so assuming that it was a drug dealer the deal has been done so she didn't save a damn thing.

Of course, she just fucked herself. Why is it that the more kids a person has (5 in this case) the more stupid they become? "Oh as badly as we need the $ cuz we're poor and have 5 kids I want to be a retard and do the right thing. This way the police get the $ and I can just starve, but at least I save something." That's basically it.. Retardation is spreading like wildfire.

SuckOnThis 04-05-2012 09:23 AM

Thanks Reagan for making it legal for the govt to steal.

Supz 04-05-2012 09:27 AM

thats what she gets for calling the police. keep your fucking mouth shut next time.

Tom_PM 04-05-2012 09:27 AM

When I was a kid we were taught to turn over found money to the police. There's nothing stupid about it and it's not hard to understand. It's was ignorant her for not realising the world is not what she thought, and thats all there is to it. NEXT time if she does it, it'll be stupid now that she's learned the lesson.
Not everyone grew up in the times when people were so cynical. People used to look out for each other, it's part of history now.

Spunky 04-05-2012 09:40 AM

The cops will enjoy it

Agreed.

For her this will, no doubt, be one of those milestone moments that one never forgets and always plays the dominate role when faced with even vaguely similar decisions.

Too bad this lesson had to come at a time when she could least afford to learn it.

Jet Set Cat 04-05-2012 10:21 AM

Nothing about that story makes sense.
Someone doesn’t just leave a 12.000 tip at the Fryn' Pan restaurant in to go box. My guess is it was some kind of shady business deal gone wrong so she panicked and left. I also doubt that the waitress didn’t open the box before she ran after the person. More than likely she saw the cash before she ran out to stash umm “return" it.

There could have been untold amount of money in there and for fear of being involved in a crime they may have pulled out $12,000 and brought it to the cops. Maybe they were afraid it was counterfeit or even terrorist loot. I just strongly doubt they turned in the full amount. If they did they have to be complete morons.

"I know the smell of marijuana," Nickolas Fronning, a line cook at the Fryn' Pan, said in an affidavit. "I can also assure you that there was no smell of marijuana on the bills or coming from the box."

lol

It is a flawed argument to argue that it is the right thing to do to turn over a 12 000$ "tip" to the police, and then argue that it is wrong for the police to hold that money because it is drug money and/or the product of a shady transaction. You either stick with your good samaritan approach all the way, or you do the everyone-out-for-himself thing all the way, not call the cops, keep the money, etc.

Do you seriously think this lady was getting a generous tip from a random stranger (who just happened to be in a hurry to leave that restaurant). Who knows, the waitress maybe came awfully close to getting whacked. I'm not saying I know what happened exactly, but the cops probably have a legal right to hold that money. In this situation, the moment she called the cops, she should have known she wasn't getting that money back, or at least that there was a strong chance she wouldn't get it back.

He says this in an affidavit.

I swear stupidity just gets worse as every day passes.

Tom_PM 04-05-2012 11:45 AM

Of course the cops always will have a legal right to do whatever they need to do, heh. Seriously. If they think it's drug money, then the thing to do is say you smell or detect drugs on the money. Voila, you've done what you need to do legally to keep the money as evidence.

It's not really an argument though, you can look what the police told her from their own mouths, if the story is accurate of course. First they said she could claim it in 60 days if nobody contacts them about it missing, then they told her 90 days.. and THEN they told her it's drug money. Wouldn't you think if anyone should stick to one theory it should be the police dept?

One can only speculate what was going through her head. Was there a bank robbery? Is it counterfeit? If I spend this and it's stolen and marked, will I go to jail? Who can say? What we know is she said she thought it was the right thing, and the police said she could keep it if it wasn't claimed.
