Miami cost of living
Hey guys.
I was just curious if someone can live ok in Miami making around 50k/yr. I'm not talking about high life shit of course, just in a small apt in a good neighborhood, be able to pay my bills on time, eat regular meals, etc... My friends there all talk about how expensive it is and they have a combined income so I just want to be sure it is feasible. Most of the web design jobs start around 40 - 60k and I think it would be a nice change from the Southwest Florida area. Thanks in advance. :thumbsup |

Yes you can. |
yup, you'll be OK on $50k/month, good luck.

Thanks for the info guys.
There are some good jobs there for me, one of them being with a well known clothing line whch would be awesome for the resume. I just don't want to screw myself by leaving here or ending up trapped in a bad place. I'll start sending out my resumes tonight. Quote:

Of course you can. Once you've lived here for a while you will learn where the locals spend their money. Plus there's plenty to do here that doesn't cost much money at all. And fuck downtown, keep it on the beach. Why the fuck else would you live in Miami if you didn't live on the beach.

Sure you can.
Living on SB is overrated. Find a spot in North Miami Beach/Aventura and you'll be fine. |
they sure cannot wait to see you there :) have duck! :thumbsup

just watch about the first 60 seconds of this video to see where the other half lives, across the bridge and the tracks... most have never seen brickell. ironically this neighborhood (little haiti) is where the talenttesting.com clinic is for the pr0n stars. i hated it when they sent us to that ghetto ass office for blood draws

I saw this as a kid and thought that everyone in Miami was like this, walking around with open waistcoats, hairy chests, and greased up hair. I couldn't find the one where he's walking down a busy street in a yellow waistcoat with all his wrestling gear on, but that's the best one by far. :1orglaugh |
i lived in South beach for 2 years recently and it is definitely doable on $50k/yr
you can find nice apts a few blocks in from Ocean drive for under $1k a month with parking. I am assuming you are single (solo). You can find nice studio apt or small 1br. Checkout Michigan Ave, Meridien Ave, Euclid.... Good Luck |
find a nice spot in Overtown or Liberty City. Very nice places to live right outside Miami and much cheaper. Get a pitbull and a 9mil and you will be fine.

Again guys thanks for all of the info.
I have a friend (The air traffic guy) that makes decent money there and he was complaining about the rent being so much. I think him and his gf pay like 2k a month for their place. That's like half of what I would be making without taxes :1orglaugh. I think they live in Kendall. They just told me they are near 137th and 120th but I have no clue where that is or the type of neighborhood. Maybe they are just in an expensive area. I have some family I can stay with for a short time there and I will prob take them up on the offer and just look carefully at my options. Just wanted to be sure I wouldn't be stuck there lol. |

If you live directly in south beach, in a luxury building, its expensive. Anything else is south beach is pure ghetto. If you go north a little bit. You will be better off, and can live fine. |

People live in San Francisco on $60K/yr with no problems, which is tremendously higher cost of living than Miami.

people = you?

There are plenty of good areas in North Miami, Hollywood, etc, where you can live right on the beach or the intercoastal for very reasonable rent. It's no problem to live here on $50k. It's much much cheaper than NYC, LA or San Fran.
Don't worry about SoBe. It's over rated as a place to live. Party, sure, but live? Nah. Feel free to get in touch if you want more help/info. . |
