Tough times in Germany for affiliate programs who advertise on piracy sites, several people arrested

It hasn't made international news yet, but today the german police has raided the offices of several affiliate program owners and arrested 2 people

http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/netzp...827344,00.html

What did they do?

They advertised on kino.to, a huge piracy website that was closed last year. 5 people who ran kino.to are already sentenced, some of them will do up to almost 4 years in jail.

the main owner is still waiting for his trial

and now they go after their advertisers

and btw - most content on kino.to was hosted at Megaupload

so when does it start to become dangerous for those who advertise on international piracy sites like pirate bay, pornbb or whatever?

Nice! So instead of going after Nathan they will go after Boneprone!

Going after the advertisers used to be the tried and true way of keeping piracy in check in addition to everyone else refusing to do business with you. It used to be that if you advertised on pirate sites you'd get shit from everyone else in the industry and it would end up hurting your business. That was long ago and not coincidentally in much better times.

Only a stupid pirate would hope that the net will never change...but what is even more stupid is some of the content producers who do not go after each and every one of them any way they can...

Nice, anything that hurts piracy is welcomed

Good news, thanks for sharing. Any local news on when German authorities are going to crack down on filehosting sites like netload?

At least some/most of them ... in the article it says:
[...] Im aktuellen Fall geht es wohl hauptsächlich um wissentlich auf Filmverteiler-Seiten geschaltete Werbung für pornografische Angebote ("Mädchen aus XYZ wollen mit dir reden"). [...]

which translates to:
[...] The current case is mainly based on advertising knowingly displayed on movie-destributing sites for pornographic offers ("Girls from XYZ want to chat with you"). [...]

If you check the biggest german warez sites / file-locker linksites you'll see that they mostly advertise cam sites and adult "community-style" sites.
